We booked an overnight stay at La Bastide for our journey back from Provence. The welcome we received was excellent and the room was without fault - tasteful modern decor and a well-equipped bathroom. The proprietor asked if we needed to book somewhere for dinner and when we explained that we just planned to picnic, she offered us the options of using the main terrace at the front, the breakfast room or a roof terrace at the rear of the building, which she said would still have sun. The building has been renovated and the rooms are spacious and modern. It is a little south of Vienne than we thought in a small town, we arrived on a Monday and could not find a restaurant open so we went to Patisserie just up the road and the fruit shop directly opposite and sat on the outdoor settings upstairs and enjoyed our meal with a bottle of local red wine, which we purchas. An old villa that looks a bit rough on the outside and garden area but is actually quite ok inside. We used it as a stopover and I think that it is not a destination. The room was nice and the bathroom quite good. The owner was very helpful when the local restaurants were all closed as it was a Monday. She gave us access to whatever we wanted to use in the dining room to make ourselves a snack. Breakfast was great. We had a wonderful welcome even though we arrived late in the evening. The lady who runs the hotel couldn't have done more for us and accommodation was excellent. We would definitely stay here again if we were in this part of France. We think they were a brushed cotton of some sort but were a little itchy. Shame because we really liked the place. Breakfast is €5 and is quite basic but probably relevant for the price. Nothing really. It was as expected. nothing. From the outside it's an odd place because the gardens at the front are rather unattractive and unkept. It looks like some buildings are going to go up in the near future so it remains to be seen what impact this will have.
