The location is excellent. Many 24/7 stores, supermarkets are nearby. Close to subway stations and YuYuan Garden. The staff speaks good English. There is filtered hot water in the public kitchen and they have a thermo kettle in the rooms with mugs that you can use. It is a great idea. You can also find slippers, toilet paper and towels in the room. You can set the temperature in the room which is also great. Their luggage room is free for a day. The breakfast was decent but only for the 20% dis.
kaikki arvostelut » Location was wonderful! The staff can speak english, not fluently, but they will make an effort to help you if you ask. There is a communal kitchen where you can heat stuff up and a communal water cooker; you get a thermos bottle and you can fill that to make tea or something in your room. This hostel will provide a wonderful sleeping arrangement and good access to Shanghai: three main subway stations nearby ( dashijie (5min walking distance), peopl's square (10 min), yuyuan station(10min)). Excellent location, near a major Metro Station and walking distance from many of Shanghai sights and landmarks. Beds are comfortable and there are enough bathrooms and showers. Restaurant/Bar is very nice and good!. I went there twice. Nice staff, very clean rooms, showers and restrooms. You get a door and closet keys so that you can keep you things in a safe place. Nice bar. Free wifi. Great value for money?. Near to city center and public transport. Good connection to airport.Surrounding is quite as typical Asia. There was no soap in the bathroom. The hostel is next to a local market so you can definately smell that in the corridors and the rooms. The room could have been cleaner. There were some filthy corners, hairs and things like that. Staff isn't very friendly and their English is limited. Rooms are too little, no more than one person can stand in the circulating area, two roommates can definitely not fit and handle their luggage and things. The local market next door has a horrible smell that strikes you when you enter/exit. Can't think of anything. Is not possible to pay by card. Nothing. Wifi very bad, we stayed for 1 week and no cleaning. The walls are paper thin so if you are a light sleeper you should probably bring ear plugs!. Shower was broken, there was very bad smell, wifi very bad. The entrance is in a disgusting little street. But just walk fast and don't use your nose. No elevator. No outside window in room. Floor above rooms was sometimes noisy at night. The bed linen was dirty and smelly. no free city map, small window to the corridor, hard to communicate with the chinese staff in the bar. Wifi. There is something just below (market?) the hostel which makes a lot of noise from 4.00 until 7.30 in the morning. We couldn’t sleep between those hours the two nights we stayed in the hostel. Tip for hostel: improve windows (two layers of glass and properly closable) on street side to decrease the noise. The problem might be smaller if your room isn’t located in the street side. the smell. The room was sandwiched by corridors so there was no natural light in the room. TV didn't work. The corridors to the rooms are sectioned off from the rest of the hostel by glass doors you need a keycard for, none of the keycards worked apart from the staff one. YHA discount is only 10 yuan per night as opposed to the usual 10%. Bad smell on the street and on stairs. Poor air conditioning in the room which made it stuffy at night. All the rooms were clustered together, noise from neighboring dorms could be heard very easily. Unable/willing to help with travel booking or general information. the washing service was ok, but the dryer didn't work, and staff was unwilling to have it fixed or find alternatives. Room was not clean and it was smelly. The list is long : TV broken, sometimes no hot water when showering, no window in our room, rather noisy people (but OK for youth hostel) ... But the worst is that the laundry which is located just above the rooms was active during night ! We were awaken at four by the repetitive and rather intense sound of the washing machine and dryers.
