  Pousada Portas da Amazonia was a charming old hotel directly in the middle of the old historical downtown of Sao Luis. The staff was wonderful; breakfast was delicious set in a lovely outdoor atrium surrounded by beautiful tropical plants. Charming is the best word to describe this hotel, and my pictures just can't capture the old world ambiance... mitä ihmiset sanovat » . - I really enjoyed the stay - the staff was great, helpful and able to manage situations that didn't necessarily run as planned. The location right in the historic center is really good to explore old São Luis and close to the boat to Alcantarra. The decor in the pousada and rooms is gorgeous and cosy. Really enjoyed my stay.

  Very clean, quiet and extremely relaxing. Canoes can be used for free. The hotel has his own little boat dock and you can swim in the river. Safety is not an issue. A good breakfast was included in the rate and the hotel also serves a fantastic lunch and dinner for little money. The owners are a swiss/brasilian couple. They were really helpful in organizing our trips at site/taxis/etc. For the trips to see the park you get picked up direct - The owners Michael and Josiane were extremely hospitable and made our stay extra special. We were expected to arrive late in Barreirinhas but Michael and Josiane were gracious enough to offer us a ride from the airport since they were in Sao Luis for the day. Once we got to the place we instantly understood why this place was rated so highly. The food was cheap and delicious, the grounds were extremely well kept and the bungalows were very clean.   Lovely, clean and well maintained. The staff were very helpful and when we could not communicate with our limited/ almost nonexistent Portuguese were quick to either find someone to assist or use Google translate. They were able to book tours for us for pickup at the pousada and gave us extra time for checkout as our bus back to Sao Luis was later... mitä ihmiset sanovat » in the day and the tour we had came back in the afternoon.
