The staff at this hotel are probably the most friendly, helpful, professional staff I've ever come across - and I worked in hospo for 8 years! They really made our stay from the moment we arrived - despite a small issue with the booking they rectified it immediately and with grace and charm. Breakfast was delicious, well worth the money, really varied and plentiful but of good quality too. Our room (superior double with sea view) was very comfortable, spacious and well provisioned. The horizon club had a very good deal with the breakfast buffet plus the coffee/tea/drinks throughout the day + the evening canapes. The early arrival lounge was a good idea, that was the first hotel that i have been to that had that. My room was very spacious and gave a very relaxing feel to it. The bathroom area was very spacious. The room was very clean. Had high c. My teenage daughter and I stayed on the Horizon level - and were very happy with the service. Breakfast was wonderful - great selection of food -all types - good staff- and the happy hour at 5:00 was superb - a few nights we just filled up on appetizers and wine and called it a night - the pool was fantastic - sitting by the waterfall or under an umbrella in the pool was very relaxing - again - wonderful service - pick the Horizon level - it is worth the extra - food in AU is expensive when yo. Stayed in the Horizon Club Room and it was quite big with great views. Comfy bed (made us feel like we slept for longer hours). For Horizon Club Room guests they offer complimentary drinks (including red, white, and sparkling wine) and canapés in the Club Lounge every evening, we would just pop in for a snack and relax after the day's activities before picking a place for dinner. About 10 mins walk from Esplanade and 2 mins from Fleet Terminal, where tours to the Great Barrier Reef depart. Impeccable service. Staff were beyond excellent, being extremely attentive, knowledgeable, adaptable and showing an absolute dedication to their profession. Horizon Club excellent inclusion, highly recommended. Definitely worth paying a little extra to secure Horizon Club floor and Horizon Club access. Room was well presented and clean. Furnishings were tasteful. Amazing views! 10/10 for the Shangri-La Cairns. The management was great they took care of all our needs. The only think I would recommend is that the rooms get re-freshed. They seemed dated compared to the other places we stayed for the same rate and comparable stars. The manager was lovely, accomadating and excellent at provding outstanding service. We appreciated the kindness the staff offered at this hotel. The hole stay the staff were very helpful if we needed anything they were more than willing to help and if I had any questions they help me if they did not know the answer they would find out and tell me the hotel was spotless and a very nice place to stay. I was amazed at the quality of the entire staff. Everyone was more than accommodating. Karin at the Concierge desk even arranged for me to have a cake on my birthday. I felt taken care of on every level and quite spoiled too! One of my fav trips ever!. Had a great time staff were absolutely wonderful. Executive lounge was worth the extra money. The best location in town right on the water with wonderful views and right above restaurants. good size rooms as wall. I would stay here again. Nice swimming pool and surprisingly affordable drinks at pool bar. Location is very convenient, 15 mins away from the airport, right next to the pier for all the water activities. I stayed at the Horizon Club which includes daily breakfast and happy hour free pouring drinks & snacks!. I liked the location, very close to restaurants and shops. very friendly staff, we enjoyed our visit so much we have cancelled another booking elsewhere to return to the Shangra La for the Queens birthday weekend. The free drinks and canapés for those in executive rooms were a delicious touch. The staff in those lounges were helpful and very friendly. The location was great and the views of the marina are lovely. Being offered an upgrade. Valet parking. Proximity to restaurants/bars/airport. Bathroom with fantastic shower and bath. Balcony. Great view. Friendly staff did everything they could to welcome us. Central for what our trip required, as we attended a football match. It is a great location for walking to shops dinner and enjoying the factilities that are avabile . Enjoyed the views from our room which was on the third floor (executive suite) and enjoyed the breakfast downstairs being able to sit outside and enjoy the view. Everything was 1st class. An amazing experience. Even down to breakfast!! I had an early flight so breakfast was waiting at reception in a takeaway box!!!. Good location next to ferry terminal and a short walk to the centre of town and the lagoon. Comfortable enough but have been to better Shangri-La hotels. Also loved the shopping and restaurants on the bottom floor of the building - very convenient!. near to beach and best view, near to Reef Terminal Center, 2 mins to get there to go to Great Barriers Reef by boat, Clean room and reasonable price. North restaurant has gourgoues food. The is very comfortable. It is at marina you can jump from your balcony to the boats for great barrier tour. The location is fantastic for a trip to the reef, exploring Cairns, a gateway to in hinterland attractions or relaxing on the Cairns Esplanade. perfect position and the friendly professional service of all staff at the Shangri-La Hotel was excellent. they make you feel very special. We stayed at the Hotel for 5 nights and the customer service provided by the staff was excellent. Would definitely recommend this hotel. This was our second stay in Cairns this year and on both occasions the staff, all, were very friendly which is not typical in Cairns. I received an upgrade which made my time there very comfortable. The only downside to this hotel is that it is quite in need of an refurbishment. Things are starting to look a bit shabby and old - the pool area in particular really needs revisiting. A couple of little things in the room needed fixing/updating too. This doesn't detract massively from enjoying the hotel stay but for the price they charge for the rooms you'd think they could afford it and from reading some other reviews it seems it's been like this for some time. Hotel was perfect!!!!. No negative feedback. The only negative didn't really mar my trip but should be made known to others. We upgraded to a corner suite for an upcharge per day. The room is lovely but is directly over the bar. When there is live music, you hear it all thru the floor. Like I said, it didn't really mar our trip cuz we used earplugs but don't be caught off guard. I would so do it again!. Our first room developed a shower leek but they gave us a good up grade. First room was a little out dated but was still very clean and comfortable. Swimming pool water could have been a bit warmer. Biggest disappointment was not being able to extend our stay due to limited availability ;(. nothing comes to mind at the moment. This hotel felt more Sheraton than Shangri La - definitely below par for their standards of luxury. The hotel rooms and bathroom had clearly not been updated for about 20 years, genuinely. We faced onto the lovely marina but the other side of the hotel was above an incredibly noisy bar playing the sort of music popular in illegal warehouse raves in the early 90s. Don't be fooled by the high cost of this hotel - it's really not value for money. No makeup mirror in bathroom. Nothing really comes mind. It was a bit confusing trying to find our way to our room, having to take two lifts and also the next morning we ended up going to breakfast on the ground floor when we were supposed to go somewhere else, but it wasn't clear in the instructions. We actually did find it after we had been to the ground floor. The room itself is a little tired and could do with new paint. Concierge staff seemed more interested in selling tours than giving local advice. I stayed in this hotel 3 years ago. The condition of the room I stayed in this time was a little bit lower than last time. Mini bar is expensive but the same as other establishments. This is one area that any establishment can make a change. I would go for economy of scale rather than price these goods out of reach of the traveller due to over the top prices. Waiting for a large group to check in. Breakfast prices were a bit steep as were the health spa fees. The only thing we didn't like was that there was no spa bath(s). 1 bedroom suite did not have a TV in the bedroom For a premium room, it was on a lower floor making it not so private to foot traffic on the pier. House keeping was not really done job. Bath was still dirty, cup and glasses has been used were not changed. Also we left underwater camera in the room after check out.we rang and asked, but their attitude was really bad, feels like" too bad" attitude. For a 5 star hotel I expect my shower to be hand-held also. A small thing. Some of the staff members were not as friendly as the front staff. Tour booking and management. It cost us $255.oo for one night. The furniture was made out of plywood with holes in the drawers for handles. Really thought it would be more upmarket. The beds had only 2 sleeping pillows each queen bed, the couch was plain without cushions and pulled threads all over it. There was a book on the coffee table showing all the Shangrila hotels all over the world. I think the Cairns hotel could do with an upgrade. Inadequate bedding, poor wifi service (just cos its free doesn't mean you should have to sit in the bathroom to get the best signal. Room had not been cleaned properly, found rubbish under the sink and a puddle on bathroom floor with a towel over it. Room service food could be much better for a 5 star hotel. Some of the facilities were a little "tired". Elevator broke in the tower. Confusing layout of entire hotel!. nothing. Long corridors. Hotel was dated. the water in the pools at the front desk smelt bad... Large...long walks to rooms.... Room smelt damp Decor. quite noisy from restaurants in the evening. the wifi is not stable at all. The lift is odd. It starts and stops suddenly. Almost nothing). Executive room had water leak coming from shower into bedroom had a very strong smell could not get sleep for three days.
