We planned on staying one night at Baleens, but changed to 2 after getting there. We loved the wonderful building and the African furniture and furnishings. The stained glass window with proteas was beautiful! We had booked a family room that sleeps 4 (there were three of us), and were given two rooms; one with sea and mountain views and the other with an outrageous sea view! We could easily have seen whales.... If the whales had decided to make an appearance (which they did not). The rooms wer.
todo comentarios » This is a fantastic place for anyone that would enjoy a breathtaking view ( I had a panoramic view over Grotto Beach from my room/balcony), a close access to the beach (the footpath starts just 25 meters from the place) cleanliness, excellent basic service and an overall lovely experience. The staff and owner Paula went way beyond what was expected with providing information and transport to ensure that we had the best experience possible while staying there (in our case 5 days)- including (. Room was clean and neat. Nothing luxurious, but but spacious with a lovely little mountain facing balcony. As far as 3 star accommodation goes, this place was spot on. Simple, but delicious fry up for breakfast, with all the necessities for a continental breakfast if that's your style. Our host was a champ, friendly and educating about the area and places to go. Definitely recommend it if you're on a budget (you can spend the extra on all the lovely seafood that Hermanus has to offer). The hotel is situated quite far from the downtown, but it's not a disadvantage at all, as at a very small distance there is a beautiful beach and a lovely restaurant. The owner is a fantastic person, who can recommend you numerous activities and places to see. The breakfast was abundant and very tasty. We had a reservation for one family room, but when the owner saw that we were 2 couples, she kindly gave us two huge separate rooms for the same price!. loved the rooms, the décor, quirky and interesting. loved the outside decks from the rooms for quiet time. enjoyed communal facilities and access to lounges and different places to relax or play. Most accommodating staff, friendly and also went out of their way to ensure we were happy and comfortable, even giving us a lift to town. Very friendly welcome and staff were all very helpful. Public rooms were extensive for a guesthouse and included lots of books and games. Really nice breakfasts and a great sea view with balcony with our room. Quiet location with a shortish walk downhill to the lagoon then onwards to the huge sandy beach. This place is absolutely phenomenal! The staff go out of their way to assist you, the place is immaculate and cosy enough to feel home away from home. Extremely cheap, real value for the price you pay. The breakfast is fit for a king and so is the service you get. Love it, must go again and again. All staff super friendly. Abundance of coffee/tea/hot chocolate for all the guests available 24 hours. The location of the venue, which was convenient for us to attend the Hockey Festival at Hermanus High School...The comfort of the rooms and friendly and efficient service received.. all in all a great place to stay. The ONLY drawback of this location was the lack of choice regarding local eating/drinking places (at our stay only ONE in addition to Baleens). For vareity, one is dependent on either good trekking skills or taxi/Tuk-Tuk services.... (that come cheap). Hotel was a little noisy as the walls are quite thin - but that would depend on your neighbours - ours went for a fully clothed swim at 2 in the morning! Mattress on the bed was lumpy and pillows have seen better days. But that said, it was clean and fresh - so that saved the experience. I'd still highly recommend this place if you are looking for true 3 star accommodation. You get what you pay for and its definitely not bad!. The only problem we had was that we could only stay for 1 night and we would love to stay longer!. Perhaps the bathrooms could do with a revamp. upgrade tiles especially in the showers. add a shelf also. The room was somewhat old fashioned and needed a facelift, but it was all we needed, and the good public rooms made up for it. Nothing at all. The guest house is a bit out of town. We were in Hermanus for a National Sailing Regatta - the out of town situation suited us fine as we were near the Hermanus Yacht Club. No negatives. Will surely stay at Baleens again. We stayed in a unit with a kettle & microwave, but there were no cups, plates, cutlery, tea or coffee etc., which would have been a nice addition. A shelf somewhere in the bathroom would be useful to put toiletry bag on, as well as a couple of extra towel hooks/rails. That we could not stay longer!!!. Climbing stairs a problem for me,but we were offered a room downstairs.Next time I go there,we will deffinitely ask for ground floor room.Maureen. There is nothing that I did not like!. Some walls would need a new paintings but that could easly be forgotten with all the other pluses which that guest house has. The bed was a bit firmer than what I am used to. Nothing. No glasses in the room. 4 km from town centre. Nothing!. There was no drinking glass for water and no floor matt at the bed to step onto. Actually, nothing. the towels had a bad smell. The wooden floorboards were noisy, unfortunately kept up til 1am by a couple next door walking around with a baby. small pool. Nothing. We couldn't stay for longer :). Cannot think of anything. there were no dislikes. Room view. The bathrooms. we were advised that the pass to franschoek was open, but it wasn't. Also we would have appreciated an email to the effect that the hermanus/stamford road was shut (it is one of only 2 routes to hermanus).small thing - one is used to products (shampoo, body wash) being supplied and doesn't take with. Baleens don't supply.
