Attractive hotel with good character and an important site in Mendocino. Helpful staff, especially whilst we decided which room to take. Aspirational restaurant attracting both hotel residents and local people. We loved the Victorian décor, the delicious meals, the location, the view out our upstairs window--really the sitting room right outside our room's view, and the quiet at night.

The ambience, service, and breakfast were great for the price. perfect Victorian/ New England style building with lovely gardens and resident hummingbirds Excellent meals and polite, efficient service. We enjoyed a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The gardens are beautiful. The restaurant was very nice and the food was good. the ambiance, beauty, friendliness and amenities. It was the most beautiful of all the places we stayed at during our trip. Staff was super friendly. Food was amazing! Room was beautiful. Quirky charm, atmosphere, location,responsive staff. The location, room, gardens and the food. The view and the fact that they serve breakfast and dinner at the property. Great location with Mendocino right on the coastal bluff. Quite a wide range of rooms yet not sure that ours warranted the over-arching description "de luxe" being somewhat dark, short on storage (we didn't unpack) and small compared with other hotels we had stayed in on previous nights. You might provide a step stool to get up onto the beautiful old sleigh bed. It was so tall! Also, a blind in our room was tied open so tightly that we couldn't lower it. It's a good thing no one could see in our window. nothing at all. No public area indoors for relaxing outside of your room. I reserved a deluxe room, but learned, the day we left, that deluxe is the fourth from the top of a list of five. The room was pleasant and reasonably comfortable, but certainly not deluxe by any definition. the food was not as good as everyone was raving about. Tv is a yuky new feature, quite a few small details missed; poor draining sink, toilet roll holder failure, etc.A Little more wear and tear than in past visits. Nothing too serious, but hope not a trend. The add-ons for breakfast - why is OJ an extra that has to be paid for? Given the overall cost for the stay this is a minor expense. I think you should let people know there are a substantial number of stairs, and they can be difficult for older travelers. Our room was situated in a separate cabin and there was a motor running all night, nearby outside the room that created a loud hum.
