This YHA is in the most amazing location next to the incredible Whitby Abbey. The property itself is very old and still maintains the charm and many features of its glory days. The property has immense character and I wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast was fine for 4.99 and they also offered dinner options. The location here is one of the best for a YHA and the staff are also wonderful. We were also given a family pass to the abbey! Highly recommend Whitby YHA.

The Hostel is in an outstanding location, good for parking,the building itself is full of history without being stuffy or pretentious. Also you get free entry to the Abby how brilliant is that! Hope to visit again soon. All the best to everyone there. The location is unbelievable, unbeatable, amazing. Just next to the abbey, overlooking the town, it was one of the nicest experiences. Premises were clean and breakfast was very good for the price, a buffet for 5.95, including full English and continental. You can also take some food with you as there are communal kitchen facilities where you can have your own breakfast . Overall, extremely good value for money. Can’t fault this facility. It was a privilege to be able to stay in such a fantastic building and walk through history, even if only for a day. Reception and Kitchen Staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and tidy and the en suite shower room/toilet were more than acceptable. Would recommend this facility without hesitation. The setting is the most impressive thing of the YHA. The view and location sets it aside from anything else. Excellent breakfast, great value for money, staff were very helpful. Added bonus was the free entry into the abbey. Parking, lifts and washing facilities added to our stay, totally recommend. The staff was wonderful and welcoming and the accommodations were excellent. It's very close to town and all amenities. We had an amazing view of the Abbey from our room. It's completely accessible for all patrons. I've stayed at many hostels over the years and this is one of the very best. went with my 16 year old daughter who is fascinated by vampires so couldnt of asked for a better location we both had a fabulous time. Bonus was we got 2 full days in Whitby as we could use car park before checking in and after checking out. Fantastic location overlooking Whitby and next to the Abby (free ticket given for guests). Comfortable beds and very clean. Great kitchen facilities if you want to prepare your own food. Quick and easy walking access to the town via the 199 steps. Great location and fabulous historic building. The rooms are very well maintained and clean with sturdy bunk beds too. The onsuite facilities are modern and clean. The staff are just wonderful too. Lovely breakfasts and packed lunches. Wooden bunk beds were a bit noisy and not very long, my boyfriend fitted just (he is 1.80 m high) but those are just minor issues compared to the amazing advantages of this hostel! That shouldn't put you off! I would stay there again if I was so lucky to find vacancies. There was nothing not to like excellent value for money. Be aware that the hostel caters to school groups, so breakfast and early evening may be noisy, but the children were all quiet by 11pm. There was no noise at all. none. Limited parking, I think there should be an arrangement between Englist Heritage and YHA for additional car parking. The public car park is not too far away, so no big deal. I also think the door to the loo could have been made to open instead of in, which would help since it is a tight squeeze but again a very small point. Can be a bit noisy if school children staying - but that's to be expected- and it quietens down later in the evening. The interior of the YHA is kind of old ans smelly. It defenitly nees a renovation!. our room only had a shower, no bath. Mattresses on beds are understandably designed to cater for children etc, but felt a little plasticky and 'hospital like'. parking a bit restricted on arrival but fine later on. The only downside was the small size of the car park serving Abbey House. The room we stayed in was cold. Parking was a little awkward. Although parking permits were available after 6pm for a space closer to the hostel I had to park in the main abbey parking facility for less than an hour before this was available. Older residents may prefer to request a room on a lower floor as the stairs are narrow and steep and can be a bit difficult with luggage. Car park hard to find but once we knew where it was it was a good car park. nothing. Lack of towels. The car parking. Nothing.nothing. nothing!. I can't think of anything I didn't like... Nothing. We travelled to Whitby by train so the haul up the steps with our luggage was a bit of a test!. only one toilet for the 10 bunk dorm. Better choice on restaurant menu. Being woken at 6.30am by someone else in the dorm rustling bags and zipping zips. Breakfast was rubbish - tasteless sausages, lumpy scrambled egg, no tomatoes, no mushrooms. No fruit apart from a few segments of grapefruit floating in a bowl. Should change the colour of the bedding. A bit difficult to find in a dark and rainy night. The toilets smelt of public urinals, and worse still the smell would waft into the sleeping area. Nothing to report. Very little - kitchen could have been a little better equipped. room hadn't been cleaned properly on our arrival.
