What people say
It's very easy to arrive in the house from the Central Station and it takes only 15 minutes walking from the house to the city center. Guest house is in a quiet area so that at night you can rest without being afraid about the noise of the cars or the people around. The staff are very kind, they helped me and recommended me many places to visit in the city. The room was cozy and the bathroom had all the commodities I needed. all reviews »
Having travelled extensively for many years, this is the best B & B I've stayed in. Although there for only one night, the good-humoured hosts Jim and Josie went out of their way to meet my requirements. Hunters Lodge is homely but immaculately clean and I hope I have the opportunity to stay there again in the future.
We want to thank you very much for the wonderful stay at Jim and Josie.
They were so courteous, attentive and gracious. It was our honeymoon and
it was all done to show us the English hospitality. Every time we would
love to come again and can only recommend it.
A big thank you.
The room was nice and the bed really comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and plenty of hot water in the shower. Free wi-fi, which I think is unusual in budget hotels. Jim and his wife (the owners) are very friendly and handy. I warmly recommended it.
It was more than I wanted - single room with shower, perfectly clean
overall, crisp linen, cozy. Loved the coconut shampoo! Breakfast was
nice and not so oily as many other places. Next time, I willl book
directly with the hotel.
Everything. This is a superior guest house, scrupulously clean, very well-equipped and maintained, extremely reasonably priced and run by helpful, conscientious owner-staff.
I cannot speak too highly of Hunters Lodge.
Very warm welcome and and very helpfull on local information of places to eat and go. We will defiantly book again when we are down that way through out the year.
I thought it was a lovely hotel and the owners were very friendly. As a
disabled person I found the beds very comfortable which is a rarity for
me these days.
The welcoming approach by the landlord; The place was clean, quiet and friendly and a walking distance from the train station and the city centre.
Nice and clean room, good quality internet, friendly and personal
approach. Very quiet. I didn't have the breakfast so I can't
comment on that.
The owners were very friendly.

Since I went to Southampton for business I missed a desktop in the room to work with my laptop. It would have been great if the room had had a bigger window in order to see the street and have a bit more of natural light.
I was in Southampton for business but it looks to me that the city itself is an awful place to visit. I may want to use it as base to visit the surrounding (i.e.: New Forest, sea-side etc).
Not a negative, but remember to let them know when you will be arriving.
Everything was fine.
no airconditioning.
Not many electrically sockets.
nothing.
There wasn't anything that I didn't like.
I tried to walk to the town centre and near the train station was immediately accosted by 2 different people hitting me up for money. They appeared drunk or drugged. I chose to not attempt to walk further. It might be good to warn single women about this possibility.
Nothing.
Small room, but fine for one night.
Incoming telephone calls are routed through the front desk, which is
unattended a lot during the day, and after about 9pm. Internet was very
spotty and mostly didnt work during the room. The lounge, which was the
only place to get stable internet reception, was closed in the evening.
Nothing.
The bed smells bad.
Nothing.
Having to carry cases up stairs.
Breakfast ...Charged £7-50 for 2 of the skinniest tinyest sausages I have ever seen.. & 1 slice of toasted bread...I know thats all my lass wanted to eat... but I thought it a bit unreasonable to charge full breakfast price.
None.
Felt £77 would have been a fair price for bed and breakfast but came to £92 with breakfast and vat..
I misunderstood the proprietor when she said 'I know it said bed only but come down for breakfast'.
