Outstanding location for visiting the Cornwall area and Port Issac. The best restaurant within miles and extremely courteous service. The number one choice to stay if visiting Port Issac. It is about a 5 minutes drive to the Port Isaac parking areas which you will have to park in even if you stay in one of the 3 downtown hotels. Port Issac's is now a crowded tourist town and it is refreshing to get away from all the noise and enjoy a great evening dinner and nights rest at the Longcross hotel. .
all reviews » Travelled specifically to Port Isaac to visit the 'Doc'! Big Australian Doc Martin fans. Village was quaint and to make it even more special, they were in the middle of filming the new series!!! The proximity from The Longcross Hotel to the harbour was perfect. The short drive gave you a real feel for the beautiful Cornwall countryside. As for hotel itself, we found it to be excellent, if not a little 'quirky'! Had a very homely feel, meals were excellent and staff very friendly. Can't speak fo. I loved the helpfulness and friendliness off staff. Beautiful Hotel. Comfy and very clean with excellently appointed rooms and bathroom. Attention to detail and presentation is first class. Would strongly advise a visit. We own a Guest House and appreciate the hard work and organisatio that goes in to giving visitors a memorable and happy holiday. Very well done Longcross. It is a lovely place to stay,and the gardens are fantastic.We stayed in room one,which had a huge bed and beautiful views.The breakfast was lovely and plentiful.I Must mention Sylvia,she is the lady who served breakfast,although she was rushed off her feet she was very happy,chatty,and made you feel at home.d+k gunthorpe. P.S.the evening meal was stunning. Staff were really friendly and accommodating - providing us with charger for phone and freezing ice packs. Breakfasts were great. Gardens were pleasant to walk round. Thoroughly recommended both for location, quietness and scenery. View from the decking is amazing. Lovely location, just out of Port Issac a 20 minute walk all be it a good up/down hill one. Loved the outside Terrace and the gardens were very interesting. No negatives. Being a little bit isolated, it was probably a bit far to travel anywhere else for dinner, but the meal at the hotel was lovely, so ate in both nights. Room's lec fittings need some attention incl led GU10s to complement the rest of the hotel's low energy lighting. A radio would have been nice. Mattresses a bit too soft. I had to bleed the bathroom's radiator myself as it only heated half way up. A little bit out of the way but not a problem if you have a car. No choice of restaurants around. We booked with letsbookhotel.com while in the states. Did not read the very small print which said cancelation or changes must be made 2 weeks in advance. We realized we had booked our rental car a day later than the first day of our stay. Called the letsbookhotel.com and the hotel. We ended up making a 9 hour drive to get to the hotel on the second day and lost the first day. They would not refund or move our stay up even though they had rooms and we not booked up. Nothing. Room smelt musty. I believe this was because the bathroom had carpet floor covering. Little. Evening menue i dont like sea food and would like a few more meat choices;. Room a bit small. It was perfect. We stayed a Friday & Saturday night the first night was a bit noisy with young people in the bar drinking once they left at 12.30 am it was quiet. The fact that we did not have more time to stay and enjoy the place more. Two flights of stairs with luggage. It was difficult to get back at night from Port Isaac as cabs were almost impossible to get and we did not want to drive. But we managed it eventually on both the evenings we went into Port Isaac. I thought that there was a general under-staffing at times (afternoon) as service tended to be slow in the bar. Some minor maintenance needed in the bedroom just to make it look/feel complete. We thought we would have wifi but it was only available in the bar area and was down part of our stay. Food choice was not as good as the sample menus on the website. nothing. Weather!!! Nothing much else to complain about for a short stay. Nothing to complain about. I'd go back again for sure. Little negatives to mention. Leaving. restaurant wait staff were typically slow. No where suitable to boil jug for tea. Spotty internet access. Room not serviced after first night. Not really. I would not have liked to have taken somebody that does not like fish to that entire part or Cornwall as that's all we ate for 3 days, I loved it but not everybody does. Wasnt the best time of year to view the gardens so cant really comment on that. And the hotel really need to have words with the big man about all that wind!!!! Only joking...hard to find anything to critise. Breakfast staff need to ask how well you like your eggs cooked. But thats really nit picking. Nothing. Noise from rooms above. internet access was awful so we had to jockey with other visitors for the one good spot where you could reasonably get online. No air conditioning-too hot. Directions to reach the hotel are not easy to find. tv did not work well. the money we paid did not reflect the two star rating.we felt that £70 per night would of been more appropriate rather than the £110 paid.
