The location is ideal especially if travelling North to South or vise versa. The hotel is in a lovely setting to give you that instant away from it all rural feeling and yet so very handy for the motorway and close by for nearby shopping experience of Leeds etc.. Luxurious hotel and excellent value for money food. Have already recommended it. The atmosphere and decor was great. The gardens were lovely. Liked the choice of two different restaurants to choose from the eat. Too was great to do work in after a days work. Enjoyed the walks around the countryside near hotel each night. Good experience for visitors not from the uk.
all reviews » Location, staff, decor, dinner, breakfast were all excellent. We had a superior room which had clearly had a lot of thought put into the design and the quality of the bathroom. We only stayed one night on journey to Scotland but would have like to stay longer. Everything was excellent especially the value; food very good and the hotel staff were the most helpful and friendly weve come across. So well done everybody. loved the area and Nostall abbey well worth a visit, but Pontefract was lacking. My friend and I used to work together but had not met for 25 years. This was the ideal place to do some catching up. We lingered over meals, were not hurried by anyone, had cheerful, efficient service, able to relax. Good access to A1(M). Ample parking. Pleasant country setting. Pleasant period-style building. Staff for upgrading us as room a week earlier was too dark.Staff for finding well-lit table for dinner. The gardens are amazing all staff were polite and friendly food was excellent and breakfast had a good variety the bedroom was very clean and spacious and we would definitely stay here again. Lovely atmosphere, cosy rooms with nice, modern bathroom. Reception and restaurant staff all very friendly and helpful. Good pub food. Great value for money over all. Desperate to find something to comment on we can only come up with the plastic cups in the bathroom instead of glasses. could not think of anthing to put here. Was too hot over night and did not discover until morning how to operate air conditioning, the fact that the control unit needs to point towards the large fan unit. Artificial lighting in Room 4 abysmal in bathroom. Also in the Oak Dining Room (I am registered blind with limited vision). Food of very average 'pub' quality. A rump steak was almost inedible. nothing. Shower could do with unblocking as water was filling up round my feet but really a minor thing in a wonderful stay!. Nothing. A long area other than bar or foyer would have been useful as we met local friends there for Sunday lunch. Stayed in old part of hotel - no lift, would have been useful if we'd had more luggage. I would like the check out to be a little later than 10am. n/a. nothing couldnt fault this hotel on anything and would highly recommend it. N/A. The lighting in the bathroom was too dark. There was no offer of help as I struggled with 2 small children and all our luggage. Bar is very noisy with loud, blaring TV - not a pleasant atmosphere (the only criticism I can make though). One point was that given a list of local taxi firms as we needed to travel 2 miles to the wedding venue we were invited to. We picked Style Cars from the top of the list and the cab that turned up was absolutely filthy inside, with dirt, stains and animal hairs. Not conducive to travelling to a wedding in at all. We cancelled the return leg and let the guy know who runs the firm that we were extremely annoyed. We woke up later than expected and when we went for breakfast we were ten minutes late, we were told we were late for breakfast and had missed it! I wasn't concerned about myself but my 2 small children had no breakfast and I had to drive to a local macdonalds to feed them. Really thin mattress on a wooden bed base resulting in a poor nights sleep, a collleague also staying at the hotel said his bed was fine with a normal mattress... Nothing at all. bed uncomfortable, food not the best but not the worst either. Slightly Dated design decor in room No stand up shower in room, jacuzzi bath only so not quick to get moving (maybe just my room?) Bedding fussy and a bit awkward. some helpful person set 2am alarm on tv 4am fire alarm tv sound is fuzzy number of tv channels have digital freeze no shower (room 21) bath too narrow to get shoulders wet work desk in dark pokey corner room decorated like tarts boudoir (pink & blue lights). Being elderly - no lifts. Main bar closed. The first night had a good sleep and in the morning tidying up the bed I found a needle between the sheet and the duvet I took it to reception and the lady said ooh sorry heard no more about it might have been nasty expected a bit more than than ooh sorry?. When i came to pay price was £127 on hotel board price was £100 and we understood we should have had a room reduction as we were with a wedding it was explained ot wes because we booked on line the dearer price is the one quoted on your website are we better in future to book by phone your comment would be appreciated. No shower! What's that all about? Bed too small. Pub can get very busy. nothing. The residents bar was poor with minimal tables and chairs - although there was a separate pub type bar available. Being woken up at 5 am listening to tables being dragged across the floor !!!!!!!! unable to get back to sleep. Stayed in honeymoon suite for 2nd time, won't be repeating it rock hard mattress had hardly any sleep and the sofa in the seating area needs replacing very uncomfortable, cleanliness around the seating area not good food crumbs on the floor and a old Malteser chocolate. No wi fi in room when on the door it said it had. The food in the evening was the worst I have ever had in a hotel. The food was not nice the room facilities were basic and it was anoisy hotel with housekeepers outside the room at 7am.
