I had a beautiful room and I love the place, the ambience and the position of the hotel, beautiful grounds etc. Very helpful and friendly staff; beautiful location; well appointed and comfortable rooms; excellent breakfast. The excellent service, beautiful surroundings, easy location to Newbury centre, comfortable and relaxing. The quietnes and tranquility. The restaurant and the breakfast were superb.

A la carte dinner was excellent and worth the price. I was impressed by the knowledge the staff had of the menu. Weather helped to make lunch on the 'river desk' a wonderful experience. Room was very good, comfrtable and very well appointed.What an excellent time I had in this hotel. I spent two days and one night. Highly recommended. Good to relax and spend some time with nature. Rooms (esp bathrooms) looking slightly tired. Room doors very difficult to open. Restaurant was badly run. The staff were polite in the restaurant, but the experience was very chaotic and they were only serving breakfast at the time. Heaven knows what happens at dinner!. tried to overcharge my partner for the coffee he had.(cafetiere for two). Internet connection not working properly. Lost days of work. Hotel staff did what they could though.Breakfast - took too long, and rude girl serving. Example - took order for toast when I entered restaurant, when asked where it was 30 minutes later (and cooked breakfast finally arrived) replied "I do not serve toast". Slow checkin. Very Boring nothing to do within the Hotel.Breakfast was small. Room was tasteless. No power point close to amirror. Poor service. Breakfast cereals offered lack muesli. Orange juice was used up by guests and not replaced. Butter was not put on the table we had to ask. Coffee served by the cup with no offer of top-up. Reception offered print out of Newbury-Reading bus timetable but did not do so. On leaving tried to charge us £45.50 too much and then made no apology. Charged 25p extra for newspaper.The room was too hot and had no fridge. Three mornings out of four had no hot water for shower. Told each dayhad been fixed but when returned late in evening had not been. Last daywas moved to another room.We'd stayed at the Manor last year and it was wonderful. This year not only was the room smaller but the shower was from hell. Being on business we don't have time for baths so a shower is quicker and wakes you up. The head was falling off, the hot\cold was jammed, so my wife burnt hear head and couldn't finish showering. the flow of water was poor, and a bodge repair to the old bath. When we arrived they said that I called to cancel one of the rooms - I had not. At first we were told that there was not a room for us and would have to find an alternative hotel. After explaining I had a meeting at midnight with others staying at the hotel they managed to find us a room.Shower only ran boiling hot couldnt use, curtains hanging off rail, Lock on door was faulty,got locked in and cleaner had to get me out. The rooms door frame had a chunk out that if you bent down you could see into the room, i assume that this is in preparation for a new credit card key. My room was the only one without this style of key. I also could not oprn the door very easily with the key i was given and was 'locked' in at one point. The room was very shabby - torn curtains, nets hanging down, dirty walls and carpet.Dirty restaurant; poor food; indifferent bar service; loud, live music in near vicinity until midnight; bad bedroom maintenance (inoperable windows, broken bedside lamp); inadequate bedroom mirror.

Newbury Manor Hotel is 300 yards on right opposite The Swan. FROM THE A34 SOUTHAMPTON - follow A34 signs for Newbury, slip road brings you off at Speen. At the roundabout, take first left. At next roundabout, go straight across. This takes you to Robin Hood Roundabout. Stay in right hand lane and follow signs for A4 Reading. Pass BP garage on left and come to small roundabout. Go straight across. Newbury Manor Hotel is 300 yards on right opposite The Swan.
