Just 3 miles from Cartmel and 5-minute drive from the shores of Windermere, The Blue House Bed and Breakfast gives guests views of the fells and the sea. The 17th Century cottage offers Aga-cooked breakfasts and free Wi-Fi connection.
Each of the 2 guest rooms comes with en suite facilities, and includes free toiletries and home-baked biscuits. The garden room has a private entrance and a wood-burning stove, plus under-floor heating beneath the Lakeland slate flagstones. Both rooms feature Freeview TV, a DVD player, and tea/coffee-making facilities.
Breakfast is served by the wood-burning stove in the stone-flagged dining room, with porridge, pancakes or a full English as options. There are several pubs and restaurants in the village of Cartmel including Simon Rogan's Michelin starred restaurant L'Enclume. The nearby Crown pub in High Newton serves quality food in its traditionally styled restaurant.
The surrounding fells provide many walking and mountain biking routes, while the boating marina on Windermere is only a 20-minute drive away.

Tina made myself and my fellow traveller (in a separate room) very welcome and we could have been staying with good, friendly relatives. She prepares a very sound, tasty custom-made breakfast at any of several times one can designate on the supplied slip each day. Tina and her husband were grand hosts and very helpful with tips for the area (including the very excellent Higginsons Cumberland sausage at Grange-over-Sands). We both came away very satisfied with our stay. all reviews »
Property is quaint and in a delightful setting, breakfast was very good and tasty, loved the chickens and Drakeshead Labradors and there was lashing of hot water. Tina our host made us very welcome in every way, she couldn't do enough for us. Tina even offered to make a surprise birthday cake for my fiance and it was there in our room when we arrived. This was actually the second cake as the chickens had sneaked into her kitchen and ate the first one!!.
It's a lovely, originally renovated house in a fabulous location
for accessing the Lake District; Tina, is a lovely, friendly host &
gives excellent customer service; we were in the Garden Room: a
beautifully decorated clean, comfortable, warm and well-equipped room -
with a wood-burning stove, tv, dvd Player (& DVDs); a very hearty,
delicious breakfast was served - fabulous cooking, Tina! Excellent
value overall.
We had the Garden room which was in the oldest part of the property. Very clean and comfy. Tina provided lovely afternoon tea on arrival. We both loved the country location and privacy, wonderful views and fresh air. Breakfast was fabulous, the fresh home baked bread is a must. Overall a totally relaxing and enjoyable stay with very friendly and accommodating hosts. EXCEPTIONAL value for money!!!!.
Stayed in the garden room, very sweet and spotlessly clean. Very chilled comfortable stay, room was always lovely and warm thanks to the underfloor heating and wood burner. Owner welcoming and breakfast very good. Would def stay here again, especially as it was dog friendly. Good value for money.
Also good location to visit Cartmel, Windermere, Bowness to name just a few.
What a wonderful host! So lovely & accommodating. We stayed for 3 nights with a wedding on one of the days. We were dropped off at the door of the venue by our host. Nothing was too much trouble. My partner in his words 'This is the best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel/b&b'
Not a bad review for a foodie Italian man!
Good nights sleep in a comfortable mattress.
This little B&B is just wonderful, cozy and tastefully decorated.
Tina was more than helpful and the breakfast she cooked for us was so
delicious. High Newton is not the most spectacular place to be, however,
it so quiet and close to everything that we did not feel like missing
anything interesting. Overall, we had a wonderful time and we definitely
recommend it.
The small touches - home made flapjacks instead of packet biscuits in
the room and no limit on what you could order at breakfast time. Tina
accommodated my toddler (and fed her) for no extra charge and was very
friendly and helpful. The privacy was lovely, as was waking up with
sheep outside the window and chickens watching us at breakfast. The
bathroom was spotless.
personal attention and privacy appreciated. very quaint cottage in most attractive area. We preferred the ground floor room with it's own bathroom and front door, overlooking the garden. All very clean and cosy with comfy bed. The bonus was the local pub, The Crown, within walking distance and serving delicious food. Our hostess was charming.
We really enjoyed our time at the Blue House.Tina is a first class host and we were made to feel very welcome.Breakfast is second to none(Try the home baked bread) and our room was very private and very comfortable. Very well situated for exploring the lakes. We also loved the very friendly dogs and chickens. We'll definitely be back .10/10.
Our stay at the Blue House Bed & Breakfast was excellent. Our room was comfortable the position of the guest house is in a quiet location the hosts Tina and Tim are very welcoming and provide a homely and friendly atmosphere. The only downside was that we couldn't stay longer because of our busy itinerary.
We stayed in the Garden Room. Very private & cosy, yet was extremely cool in the heat due to the thick stone walls. Has original features such as fireplace, slate flooring. Had ensuite bathroom, TV & DVDs, hairdryer, tea/coffee, home made biscuits. Breakfast was excellent.
Lovely setting.
Kind and helpful owner.
Good breakfast.

Beautiful surroundings, Tina/Tim (owners) are very friendly and welcoming their dogs are too, log fire in the room was perfect, room was gorgeous, boiling hot water in bathroom, would recommend to anybody, we will definatley be visiting again.
Tina the host was so helpful and friendly, she gave us a lift to cartmel races with our dog and also booked us a taxi to get back. The garden room we stayed in was lovely with the log fire. We would stay again it was such a lovely break.
The breakfast was a tour de force, great choice and freshly baked/cooked (freshly laid in the case of the eggs!). Tina is a most welcoming hostess and offered to run us down to Cartmel where we had booked into L'Enclume for dinner.
it was a cosy comfortable room in a lovely old house & located in a lovely part of Windermere. Tina is a very friendly & helpful lady. Will recommend the Blue House to everyone who likes to stay in Windermere.
Very peaceful & wonderful not to hear slamming doors or noisey guests returning to their rooms, that plague most hotels. Friendly host. Cosey if not roomy. Log burner is a nice touch. Good parking and nice views.
Everything was fantastic - the welcome was warm, the room was lovely and the breakfasts were amazing. Tina is a gorgeous hostess and we had a wonderful time, even though the weather was not overly great.
Extremely friendly and helpful hosts that made our family very welcome. Brilliant breakfast, comfortable accommodation with added little touches that can make a huge difference over other B&B's.
Hugely welcoming and personable host, cosy and homely room, immaculate throughout all guest facilities, friendly atmosphere, lovely breakfast, full of character. We would definitely come back!.
The garden room was like being in your own cottage complete with log burner, the breakfast was delicious home made bread, pancakes if required and creamy porridge
10 out of 10 we will be back.
the owner,s and locals were all very nice people, and made you feel so welcome to the area.the food at the hotel ,and the Crown Inn was very tastey, and we would recomend the area to any body.
Love the Blue House B&B. Staff welcoming and helped us as we did get
a little lost. The facilities are beautiful and really relaxing. Great
location and great views.
Everything . The rooms were very clean the food was excellent and Tina the owner/ cook/ bottlewasher was a very nice lady . For walkers and dog owners it is ideal.
Tina was very welcoming, a great place to stay with dogs. Room was lovely and in a good location for exploring Windermere etc would definitely stay again!.
Great friendly place to stay and very comfortable. Had a lovely evening meal near by and a great breakfast the following morning.
gave me easy access to the trout fishing areas, areas which was the purpose of my trip. great breakfast enjoyable stay .
Arranged an early check-in with owner-not a problem.

Everything was perfect great breakfasts lovely room and the owner couldnt have been more helpful and welcoming.
The owner was so friendly and helpful. And the freshly baked bread was a lovely treat for breakfast!.
Cosy, attractive room and bathroom, dvd selection, excellent breakfast, wood burning fire.
The warm welcome, the nothing was too much trouble ,and the fantastic breakfasts.
staff was very attentive, nice cottage, with a lot of character.
Tina gave a very warm welcome and the breakfast was excellent.
Very welcoming.
Very clean & tidy.
Quiet & private.
Location,scenery, walks,warm comfortable room.
Warm, decor, hospitality, dog friendly.
Fresh bread
Breakfast.
Everything.
Very friendly welcome, relaxed atmosphere.
Nothing really but it was slightly difficult getting into the driveway due to the angle, incline and narrow lane. (Entering and exiting the driveway taking the 'longer' way round once we were aware was much better and not a problem).
Not suitable for disabled, very elderly or injured people; No WiFi in
Garden Room because of thick walls (but cable connection is good); no
power-point in bathroom.
Nothing at all!.
Can't think of anything!.
No mobile reception in and around the house. Very occasionally the hot
water system was a bit noisy in our room (Blue room).
There is a busy road nearbye but no traffic can be heard once inside the property.
Convenient spot for visiting the beautiful area.
Only the road noise from nearby dual carriageway when in garden (a very minor issue) reminding me I wasn't miles from anywhere.
Nothing at all.
nothing.
Finding how to get to the blue house took a little while, even though we could see what we thought was the house from the main road we had difficulty in finding the right road to get there.
There is no way anyone could not love staying here!.
Nothing to dislike.
even though the outside door was locked and secure, we would have liked a lock on the bedroom door.
Can't fault it!.
All good.
nothing really.
no negatives.
Nothing.
The room was a bit hot, but then we were in a heatwave so that would probably apply anywhere.
Nothing.
No shower, car access steep sharp corner.
Bathroom/shower being outside of room.
The dual-carriageway nearby was a bit noisy when we arrived late afternoon, but was quiet during the rest of our stay.
Awkward vehicular access off a very narrow laneway. Poor signposting made it difficult to find.
