The Eskdale is a purpose built YHA hostel set in its own extensive grounds. Ideally located to explore the Lake District, this affordable accommodation is nestled in a picturesque setting. Standing on a hillside overlooking the lush green Eskdale valley, there is a wildlife garden and nature trail to explore around the grounds. A wide range of riverside walks and country trails to suit all abilities are available nearby. The Hardknot Roman Fort is just a 5-minute drive away. Guests share a kitchen for self-catering, and there is a lounge area and TV room to relax in. A hearty breakfast is served and this YHA hostel is licensed to serve alcohol. The majority of rooms contain bunk beds.

Excellent value for money. Exceeded our expectations for a youth hostel.......where else could you get a clean, comfortable bed and a full English breakfast for less than £30? Would have been even less if two members of our party hadn't dropped out! And a great pub just along the road!!!. breakfast great value, dining room/leisure room great for a pint and a chat after a hard day on the mountain. Staff were great very helpful & accomodating.
all reviews » The Youth Hostel is situated just after you come over Wrynose and Hardknott passes near a pub, a perfect place for a rest after cycling or walking the passes. The Gentelmen on the desk was really friendly and food options were surprisingly good. The breakfast was really nice in the morning, great choice!!. Great facility with set in truly scenic countryside but what made 'Eskdale YHA' a special experience was the kindness and helpfulness of staff!!. Really clean room with comfy bunk beds. Nice breakfast, great views, nice pub, The Woolpack Inn next door. Good food aswel in the pub. The staff were friendly, accommodating and welcoming. there was a lovely homely atmosphere. The location is beautiful. I arrived at the hostel via the mountain route which made the faculty quite difficult to find - my own fault really because there's another route which makes the place totally accessible!. Nothing. Noisy men in the next room. having to leave!!. Not allowed to drink your own alcohol. Have to buy it at the hostel!. Difficulty to contact by phone before arriving. beds uncomfortable. the breakfast was very small - we recently stayed in couple of yha hostels - we're very surprised - coffee was running out and the hot plate was twice less than in Conwy YhA, toilets not in the rooms ...gave couple of calls to reception - none answered ...parking was busy , parked on grass and scratched the minibus because of the stones o. the grass. Need more showers. It's in the middle of nowhere. Very very hard to get there. The mountain road is often covered in heavy snow (snow from 2 month ago). Thus, you need to spend 1 more hour to go all the way round the mountain..... I paid £53 for 1 night for 2 people and the room was really tiny and the beds uncomfortable... The hotel in general is nice and the location is wonderful but it was far too expensive for what it was!.
