This is a family run hotel,where they have a passion for the service,comfort,beauty of the classically built house of the late 1800,s which into a special kind of ambience,for guests. From the smell of beeswax polish on the furniture...to enjoyment of the sunken gardens over looking the estuary. The same staff have looked after visitors for many years. A feature the owners must be pleased about,engendering a feel good aspect to everything that happens here. 5 stars all through.

Everything including meals were first class and they were very helpful in arranging a buffet lunch for a group of friends who joined us after walking one mourning. Loved the whole set up, beautiful warm log fire, food was good. Breakfast very good. Very clean and very hospitable . Everything - the wildlife round the hotel, the library, plenty of walking opportunities, the garden, etc. We loved the location, the style and country house feel, the friendly staff and the excellent food!. Comfortable large lounge and library area. Good food at reasonable prices. Set menu option. Impeccable service, comfortable rooms, excellent food. Lovely bedroom and ensuite. Very comfortable lounges. building, location, room, staff. I thought the service in the restaurant was excellent, friendly and efficient. The room was very comfortable, the bed especially. Bed was comfortable and property with views was charming. Focussing on client service,and maintaining the public rooms,might ocassionally cause the owners to overlook bedroom comfort. Hence I did mention a slightly lumpy mattress in our room. It was also very hot,and while a fan was supplied,we would have appreciated another. After all they are available from Tesco,s for £12.24! The owner did say he would look into it. I he does. Nothing, really. Given that our total bill was already £900, being charged an extra £20 pounds to keep my daughters room until 13:00 so that she could feed and change her 4 week old baby.Perfectly entitled to do so, as rooms are to be vacated by 11:00, but not customer friendly. Would be good to have some light classical music in the background whilst having breakfast. Maybe someone playing the piano of an evening. Nothing. Nothing really ... if I had to be very picky - it would have been nice to have a walk-in shower rather than one over a bath but guess that's personal preference!. The (albeit small) extras for certain dishes. The speed humps on the driveway - the last but one was impossible to negotiate even at crawling speed without grounding. Poor dining service. Poor food at evening meal. Lacked flavour and not well cooked. no background music. Downstairs areas, a bit gloomy and old fashioned. Owners and staff. Felt that the focus was no longer on the guests. In fact, guests needs are not the priority. Bathroom tiny with bugs in bath. No separate shower. 2 flights of stairs and narrow corridors. Food bland. Poor value for money. Badly organised (eg. breakfast advertised from 7,30am. Ground floor in darkness and no service until 8.30am and no apology from owner).

From Dolgellau by-pass:
- Take the A493 towards Tywyn and Fairbourne.
- The entrance drive to Penmaenuchaf Hall is about ¾ mile on the left, adjacent to the Penmaenpool sign.

From Shrewsbury:
- Take the Cambrian Coast Line to Morfa Mawddach.
