Situated in both the main building and the neighbouring annexe, the rooms at The Rothesay are elegant in design, with traditional furnishings. Each comes with a flat-screen TV with Freeview channels and tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms have a four-poster bed. Guests can enjoy free parking in the large private car park. There is a heated indoor swimming pool, and The Rothesay also has a relaxing patio, decked courtyard and gardens. Breakfast is served between 08:00 and 09:00 each weekday morning. On weekend mornings, breakfast is served between 08:30 and 09:30. The modern dining room overlooks the garden, where you can often see squirrels playing and even coming up to the windows.

I re-visited The Rothesay earlier this month for a stay lasting five nights. As on previous occasions I was welcomed by the owner and shown to my room which I found to be both warm and comfortable. There was a good selection of fresh fruit on the breakfast table as well as the usual cereals etc., A big plus was that I requested an item not generally on the cooked breakfast menu and this was served perfectly cooked! All in all a very pleasant stay.

The breakfast was very good with cereals, juice, fruit and cooked breakfast prepared to order, piping hot. An indoor heated swimming pool was available. The Rothesay is well placed for shopping, eating out, Highcliffe Castle and the beach.Overall very good value for money. Owner very helpful, staff were lovely, very attentive, although was ignored once by owner which was surprising after warm welcome. Lovely to be able to book pool for a private hour. Owner's good local knowledge helped us find good places to eat etc. Overall, v good value for money, if they keep their prices at the same level I'm sure they will always be full with a good clientele. The owners of the guest house are great: as it was my birthday I get excellent room larger than expected. Moreover I enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna facilities. The room itself is clean and really warm especially if you are staying in winter time it is great opportunity to enjoy sauna and swimming pool:) Excellent breakfast as you can choose continental or full English one. When we arrived we were shown to our room and asked if we would like complementary tea or coffee. which we could have in our room or in the reception or courtyard. We had coffee and this came with a slice of cake this was a very nice touch. There was a good choice for breakfast and the service and food was fantastic. I would recommend The Rothesay to friends and family. The room was comfortable and quiet. The king size four poster bed was comfortable. The breakfast was nicely cooked and had a good choice of cereals and fruit. The hotel had a nice friendly atmosphere and we were served complimentary afternoon tea/coffee and cake on arrival. Michael (the owner) gave us a comprehensive run down of pubs/restaurants in the immediate area. The Location, the design, the breakfasts, helpfulness of staff, generally the cleanliness (with one or two blindspots) as mentioned, easy access to good eating places and bus stop and good parking. We liked the fact that the dining room looks out over the garden and hope that Michael will see the potential in planting up the garden to make it attractive. The property is properly kept and run. Primises are neat and clean. The owner, Dee and Michael, are very nice, helpful and sincere. Breakfast was well served, facilities are adequate and also the swimming pool is well beyond from satisfaction. Rating should be rose and up marked. We arrived very late at night due to a train delay but were texted with instructions of how to get into our room and the heating was left on for us. Breakfast was lovely and they even made tea for my parents who had come to collect us. Very welcoming with a personal touch. We got a friendly welcome and a complimentary tea for two with huges slices of fruit and cinamon cake, delicious. The family are very friendly. the hotel is just round the corner from Highcliff castle and the beach, and a walk from Muddeford. A well placed hotel. Walking distance to Highcliffe Castle, cliffs and beach. Bus stop adjacent for Lymington, Christchurch or Bournemouth (bus-passes accepted). Outdoor seating area adjacent to the (indoor) pool and surrounded by trees. Friendly, but not over-bearing, staff. The owner was warm and friendly- on arrival we received a complimentary pot of tea and cake!. Room small modern and had all the necessary requirements. Breakfast was excellent- served hot and non greasy! will definitely stay again. The pool and sauna were great with lots of inflatable toys for kids. We were upgraded to a lovely big room with nice, clean en-suite. Breakfast was lovely and there are lots of games, books and dvds to borrow if you do get bored. Very friendly couple who went out of their way to facilitate all our requirements. Next door to the best fine dining restaurant in the area. Good clean pool we used every morning before breakfast, fantastic way to start the day!. A very comfortable and warm room .Clean lines of decor and furnished for any need for a short stay away . The location was close to the New Forest and to the coast. Because they were not busy, they were kind enough to upgrade me to a larger room at no extra cost. The welcome from the proprietor and the fact that this is truly a family-run hotel. I liked the swimming pool, the easy parking, the excellent breakfast, the shower and loo... We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of The Rothesay, the staff are excellent and make you feel at home. - Fantastic double bed - Great English breakfast - Pool is not huge, but ok if weather is lousy. The pool the room the fact that you got freshly made tea and coffee on arrival (complementary). The towels were a bit on the small and thin side.The plug in the sink was difficult to open and close and the shower control was very stiff to turn. The superior room was a bit of a 'goldfish bowl' in full view of everyone in the car park. This could be resolved with the addition of adjustable vertical blinds in addition to the existing curtains. Although close to a very busy road with some noise this did not significantly intrude. Other guests woke us up on their first night when they couldn't find their key at 1am and then ended up ringing mainline of hotel repeatedly which echoed through the halls and woke us up. Organising a 'walkie' phone to near the owner would be preferable for similar situations. Didn't see owners upon check-out which was a shame as would have liked to say thank you. There is nothing we did not like about our stay. The tv was in the wrong place to watch while lying in bed. (The frame of the four poster was in the way). A window in the corner of the dining room had been broken a long time ago and some of the shattered glass was still lying at the base of the window along with broken pieces of blind. Room 7 courtyard. There were two small blood stain on one of our bedroom curtains. We think it would be helpful if we could see the actual room we are booking on your website as our room turned out to be much smaller than we expected. Nothing. There was nothing that we could find to dislike. Nothing to report . There was nothing that I disliked. It rained. Can't think of a bad word to say about the place. Nil - all positive. The fact that we had to leave!. Can not think of any dislikes. No working radiator in bathroom. It wasn't a big problem though. Like it all. there was nothing to dislike. 3-way sockets and extension cables in bedroom. Nothing. None comment. Long life milk in rooms was off, so couldn't use it. It would be much better if hotels offered a small jug of milk each day. It was advertised as being in Christchurch but it was a good distant away. The place is more in Highcliffe which had less bars and restaurants to choose from. We were put next door to a family who,s child cried a lot, no one seemed to care, as parents just let them cry,. It was explained to us on arrival that work was being undertaken so this isn't a complaint but little things like the door handles and a very small bathroom in our room was difficult at times. general décor was a bit jaded but this wouldn't prevent me from returning. I was only there two nights. Can't think of anything we didn't like. Poor bus service into Bournemouth on a Sunday, first bus 10.34 last bus 18.15. Some of the decor a little tired, but otherwise no complaints at all. Bathroom far to small.not room to put towels or toilet bag. It was a very tight squeeze. In need of redecoration and modernisation of the main area. Our toilet/shower room was tiny but the room was quiet and nicely done - although on the small side. Didn't like the difficult entrance with the very large craters in driveway entrance. Would have liked couple more sunloungers on patio, or access to the garden.
