I liked the fact this was a large hotel but the hotel but it felf as if it were a small boutique style hotel as there are lots of little rooms which all lead off each other where you can sit and have a drink or relax. Breakfast was amazing and we ate dinner in the brasserie and chose from their Bargain lunch menu, which again was super value for money. This menu also changes daily. The room and hotel is one of the best in terms of comfort and cleanliness I stay at. The staff are friendly and its location excellent. For Bury there is only one choice!.

As a first timer at the hotel I appreciated a room with a view across to the Cathedral and Abbey Gate.Also I liked the facility for breakfast in the room and the opportunity to store luggage on the morning of my departure so I could look round the Abbey Gardens,St.Edmunsbury Cathedral,the walk around the nature reserve and the Georgian Theatre. the residents lounge with roaring fire was wellcome during a cold easter break and the sufolk grill breakfast was excellent. Convenient location, lovely view from bedroom window and pleasant staff. The food was excellent staff very attentive. Convenient for all amenities in the town. Very comfortable and friendly staff. Position and History. Lovely room. I do think the food is a little rich for the business travelor who has to watch their weight. I would like to see more choice. I am starting to go out for meals. The room I was upgraded to was above the bar area, which I found was a little noisy.Parking is limited but staff were able to move your car if needed from the public square. temperature in rooms too hot. Thought drinks exeptionally high even by London prices. difficult access from lift to the room we were allocated with a baby and pram (lots of small steps and fire doors.). As the hotel was full, there was a long queue for breakfast. However, a very good bacon sandwich and fruit juice were delivered to our room within 20 minutes. Nothing that wasn't dealt with immediately and/or is being dealt with very soon.Parking. Would be nice to see the virginia creeper back. No radio, only TV. Dinner was slightly disappointing. Previously we had eaten in the Vaults which is atmospheric and intimate. This time we were in the ground floor dining room which was very noisy.The water for my evening bath and morning shower was barely tepid. I mentioned this to reception on check out but was not offered any discount. They did apologise though. Bedroom was cool and took some time to warm up (minor point). Parking facilities; cramped to say the least and no indication of the car park. First time I have ever had soup as a light meal and not had bread. The bar arrangement is not very good. parking one way streets in area. our room was a little impersonal as from the outside the building is a beatiful 16C building however they have a modern extension out the back which is where we had our room, not quite the romantic olde world setting we hoped for. If a sink has several large cracks in it, I would rather replace it, then badly cover up with epoxy resin. Parking rather limited.No air conditioning, Always had to have the window for air circulation so disturbed early morning by outside noise, maybe ceiling fan could be an option. Uncomfortable bed.
