My son who is 4 years old is a fussy eater and it has been a bit of a worry to us on what he is going to eat but since the staff are very helpful and accomodating (I brought some of what my son usually like to eat and I asked the hotel to heat it for us or cook what he likes) that made everything easier. Happy to cater for gluten-free diet - did not have dinner, only breakfast but was able to have gluten-free toast. Also room was changed from twin to double on request - I was only able to book twin room via your website but there was a double available and the staff happily moved us.

Could do with more comfortable chairs if onedecides to relax before dinner or before bedtime. Shouldn't complain!. It could do with some light music in the dining area. lock the door at 2330 and unable to have a key to get in. On completion of Goape with certificate, hotel gave us a free bottle of wine!. They could do with a bit of music in the games room and this would have made the evenings perfect. I'm not talking about loud music but just background music. Expensive for a standard double room compared with other higher starred hotels we had stayed at on our holiday. the main louge where guests sit was very unwelcoming. had a cold feel to it. take out the silly gas fire and either put a log burner in or an open fire. It would improve the whole feel to the hotel. They need to change menu. If you stayed longer than 2 nights the menu is not extensive enough.Dining room service was rather slow. WiFi connection didn't work, even in the lounge and bar. Would have liked more daily change in menu. no. Public rooms cold; children running around - spoilt the otherwise quietrestful nature of the public rooms.The room was clean and acceptable, but rather disappointing.. Limited evening dining options. If we stay again we will go into town for a meal.Its mediocrity and its proximity to the busy main road. The bar felt like sitting in a Gp waiting room - chairs lined down thewalls of a narrow room , The owner's child running through the diningroom whilst guests were eating, Lengthy wait between courses of meal -taking over 2.30 hrs on one occasion -whilst owners and friends wereserved as apparant priority over other guests Parking insufficient fornumber of guests/staff.

Ravenstone Hotel was originally a family country house and was converted into a hotel in 1950. The hotel is now run by Andrew and Debra Binns.

The attractive original building has been tastefully extended and still retains many of the beautiful original features of the Victorian house. The hotel now offers comfortable en suite rooms and lounge and leisure facilities.
The hotel prides itself on its reputation for hospitality and a warm welcome.

Painting courses are also on offer at the hotel.

The Ravenstone Hotel is a great base from which to explore the northern parts of the Lake District and the southern lakes are just a short distance further away. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding region and a number of great places to visit, including Keswick and Borrowdale.

William Wordsworth's birthplace is open to visitors and is just a short distance away in neighbouring Cockermouth. The hotel also offers easy access to Carlisle and guests can visit the castle or the museum or enjoy a day at the races.

Alternatively, you may prefer to explore the region surrounding the hotel and all of its stunning natural beauty by bike or on foot. There are plenty of great walks and mountain bike trails in the area immediately surrounding the hotel and with Skiddaw, the 3rd highest mountain in the area as the hotel’s back garden, you will not have to walk far for a challenge.

By Car (from the M6): - Exit the M6 motorway at junction 40 and follow the A66 west towards Keswick for 27.5 km. - At the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, take the 3rd exit onto the A591. The hotel is approximately 4 miles from the roundabout, on the right-hand side. By Car (from Keswick town centre): - At the mini-roundabout at Tithebarn Street, follow the A591 North. - Turn right just before the catholic church, continuing on the A591. - Go straight across at the large roundabout. The hotel is approximately 4 miles from the roundabout, on the right-hand side.
