Lovely room, all the facilities worked, staff were helpful, food was excellent. When my partner wanted the special that I had eaten off the previous night's menu the owners ensured that it was made fresh for her. My wife and I liked everything about the Six Bells - the food, the proprietors.Close to where I wanted to be,having lived in the area for 16 years. hospitality and excellent food. staff very friendly and accomodated requirements,food excellent,nice country gardens,plenty of parking, very quiet area.Room was excellent and staff very friendly. A quaint old building with modern facilities, lovely views and peaceful surroundings.Excellent menu and very peaceful surroundings. Really comfortable bed. relaxed atmosphere in a quiet "away from it all" location. leaving. We say tthis about all hotels, it would be nice to have some comfortable winged chairs in the rooms!. Meals were a little expensive. lack of atmosphere in bar area. Breakfast service time rather short. The bed was a bit hard for our liking. A little chilly in the dining room. the salad garnish served with dinner starters and main courses was always exactly the same, with no dressing, which made us feel that it came straight from a supermarket bag. This was unimaginative for what is really a restaurant with rooms, rather than a pub, and detracted from the overall quality of the food which we otherwise enjoyed. i stayed for 2 days and was the only guest(says it all really).

Heavily beamed dining room with old Suffolk range, bread oven and copper. Rustic pine tables & chairs. Breakfast is served between 8:30am and 9:30am in the conservatory, which has views overlooking the garden. We are closed for lunch.

Next to the inn, our old barn and stables have been converted into ten comfortable cottage-style bedrooms. Each is individually colour co-ordinated with solid pine furniture and en suite shower-room. Situated on the ground floor, they offer you a peaceful and charming retreat with lovely views over the unspoilt East Anglian countryside but with all modern facilities - colour TV and radio, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, individually controllable heating and electric blanket.
Travelling information
We are situated approximately 9 miles north east of Bury St Edmunds. Exit the A14 at the Bury St Edmunds Central junction. Proceed northwards on the A143 towards Diss. Take turning on left (with brown tourist board sign for Six Bells) situated at the Stanton village junction. This junction also has a tourist board sign for Bardwell Windmill. Follow Six Bells signs to the village of Bardwell (about 1 mile). The inn is on the left by the duck pond at the approach to the village green.
We are about 45 minutes drive from Ipswich, Cambridge and Norwich, 1 hour's drive from Stansted Airport and the Port of Harwich and about 2 - 3 hours drive from London or the Midlands.
Please note that public transport is very limited in our area (only a few buses per day).
Taxis can also be difficult/impossible to arrange, especially at short notice.
If you plan to arrive after 10pm, please let us know and we can arrange to leave a key in the door for you.
