We loved the atmosphere, the breakfast was perfect, the bed was very comfy, location and history added to our time there, did I mention the food....surf and turf needs renaming but was just what I ordered, sticky toffee pudding although not homemade was smothered in clotted cream and was spot on, all in all we felt relaxed after a long flight and long drive, Carlsberg was clear and fresh, bar area was as advertised but chef should change the oil as it did smell like a chippy on sunday but other.
all reviews » We always stay at Jamaica Inn when we are en route to St. Ives - which we have done in all seasons and in all weathers. The setting on beautiful,wild Bodmin Moor is romantic and atmospheric but extremely handy just off the A30. Warm and cosy inside, Manager Steve and his staff always make you more than welcome. Rooms are comfortable and squeaky clean and you can be sure of a very good breakfast the next day!. Loved the history! It is a tourist attraction as well as a hotel, made famous by its links to daphne du maurier and its spooky going ons. There is a lot of kitch memorabilia and references to its murderous past which I loved... Even a book to record any supernatural shenanigans!! Staff were lovely and accommodating. Full cooked breakfast was amazing value. I was sad to leave!!!. We had a wonderful stay at Jamaica Inn. It is a most interesting hotel & the Museum is fascinating learning more about Daphne du Maurier...We had a four-poster bedded room, and loved it. We will be coming again, and have recommended it to family and friends, Staff excellent, everyone was helpful, and keen to make our stay a great success. Great host in Steve, most welcoming and a great sense of humour. All staff were excellent. If we owned a hotel or Inn these are the staff you would want. Great food and drink. Definately going again. We even has 4 ghost experiences in various locations in the Inn. Thanks Steve and all his team. the location was good as we were on our way down to Cornwall for a few days and decided to go an extra night and stay there as it was on the way. The history surrounding the Inn made it a great place to stay. The bar was great and very atmospheric, breakfast was good too with plenty of choices. We chose Jamaica Inn for its location and history. We loved everything about it, especially our room which had a four poster bed in the old part of the inn. The night we stayed was also stormy which added to the atmosphere. Peace and quiet and pure bliss. Rooms and facility had that old appeal but with very modern upgrades like the bathrooms. Great draft ales and meals, including breakfast. The location is right off the A30 and is a good spot to drive to multiple destinations throughout Cornwall. Very polite and helpful staff at all hours of the day and night. Fabulous atmosphere, very clean and beautifully presented throughout. Food was excellent and the service was first class. What a wonderful place to stay, we are returning customers. This was our third stay in 3years and probably our best. Staff were all very friendly, food was amazing especially the steak. Allocated a room in the newer section, the cleanliness of the room particulary the ensuite was better than any place I have stayed in a long time. Food was good and moderately priced. They had a good deal that worked out cheaper than the nearby Premier Inn, so well impressed with that. Very friendly staff and clean room. Plenty of in room drinks etc and enough plug sockets to go around!! Good bar, food was nice quality and good portions and local ale was lovely!!. The breakfast and evening meals where top class its location was also very good not as remote as we thought it would be easy access to the a road to have day trips out to the coast. Our room was excellent. Very comfy bed, modern bathroom, cleaned well every day. We loved the location, the hotel sits right in the middle of Bodmin Moore, it's very picturesque. We used Jamaica Inn for an overnight stopover on our way to Cornwall The staff were efficient & friendly, the food was good & the room was clean & comfortable. Good central location for visiting north and south of Cornwall. Hotel staff very friendly and rooms clean and confortable. Food available throughout the day. Very welcoming and extremely helpful staff. Steve Carr (Manager) is a gem! Pub is brilliant and food service excellent. So good we stopped a second night!. Barman/assistant manager was a bit abrupt on one occasion and was obviously stressed on Thursday night. I really can't think of anything negative to say about Jamaica Inn. It used to be a little tourist-kitschy because of its connections to Daphne du Maurier but since it has been under different management, they've got the balance just right. Fans of Daphne will not be disappointed whilst the rest aren't overwhelmed by hype. We stayed in the newer extension, which although lovely and beautifully presented I was hoping for a old spooky room. Sound proofing wasn't so great as upstairs guests were quite noisy... Leaving!!. The only thing i thought let it down was the bar food was not as good as it could have been and for the price. There is nothing to dislike unless you are expecting something ultra modern in design. Was more of a touristy type place which may be a little distracting, but is what also gives it it's appeal. The shower head sprayed wildly getting the rest of the bathroom wet. Nothing to dislike. Hotel very hot especially in the rooms at night with radiator off and window open. Wish you had Stilton sauce for steak on the menu. .Cannot think of anything that we disliked. The food was terrible, it was all cooked from frozen, more like something you would feed a 5 year old, paid £9 for scampi and £13 for a mixed grill. All the meat was overcooked, worst meal we have eaten and we stay at a lot of places. The museum wasn't open but we were out of season. nothing. Minor point, but they'd run out of steak in the restaurant on the first night. Bit of a shame but no harm done. We didn't see any of the famous ghosts!! The water power suddenly decreases after midnight- making for a disappointing shower. We would like to warn other travellers that if you want to visit the museam to check in first and mention it when you visit to get a discount. We found this out after we visited. Dinner was average and a little overpriced. But we only ate there on our first night. There were quite a lot of flies in the restaurant at breakfast time. Breakfast on the first day was awful, but on days 2 & 3 very good. The coffee is horrible. We wanted to stay in the old part of the inn but due to a pre-arranged ghost hunt, the rooms were reserved. The new annex is very nice. Nothing to dislike. No dislikes. Nothing not to like. Nothing to dislike at all. Nothing. Considering it's such a famous Cornish Inn surrounded by beautiful Cornish scenery and is mentioned in so many Cornish legends we were disappointed that the walls in the newer guest accommodation mostly bore pictures of totally unrelated content. Why oh why do they have cheap gambling machines in a pub which oozes atmosphere. It really cheapens It and I have never seen anyone use them. Lunch menu should offer mash, new or jacket potatoes not just chips or chips. Even off the beaten track pubs offer variety. The Jamaica Inn could learn a lot from Camelford's Mason Arms, what a menu. nothing. no complaints. nothing. Uncomfortable mattress. WiFi was pretty limited. Would have been nice to have the open fire lit in the evening when we were dining and having a couple of drinks. Could do with more real ales only one choice "Tribute", but it was a good pint. N/A. only one thing the hash browns were awful, but thats nit picking. Not applicable. 10:00 am is too early for a check out time. Nothing i disliked. Food menu was limited and expensive for the quality /quantity. didnt see a ghost.
