Everything about Café Halic is beautiful. The hospitality of the hosts is the best my wife and I have come across. The view from the room is amazing. Breakfast is delicious and generous. Lale and her family were such gracious hosts - the food was delicious, and they were always on hand to answer any questions or help us plan our day. This hotel is absolutely gorgeous - the top floor suite is very spacious, beautifully decorated, and boasts one of the best views of the Bosphorus Sea ever; the sunrises were incredible. It was not in Sultanahmet which we loved as that part of town was too intense and crazy for us - here was quiet, quaint,. I chose the hotel because of its proximity to the University which I went to each day. The staff (a family run establishment) are helpful, considerate and interesting people. My room was great, with magnificent views, and a wonderful breeze in the evening even on the hottest day. As a woman travelling on my own I felt respected and was made to feel at home. Beautiful little neighborhood in old Istanbul. The staff was incredible. The view from the top floor, and the breakfast area was phenomenal. Cannot be beaten. The view is absolutely astonishing, the room is particularely spacious, the place is quiet, staff extremly friendly and the pickup-service at the Airport very pleasant (included in the price if you stay for 3 nights). Lale and her family went far out of their way for me as I came down with the flu as I arrived in Istanbul. They quite babied me back to health in a few days. I was the only guest in the hotel (more a B&B which I was looking for), which may not be strange given it was the height of summer. 2.The price of water from the minibar was too much for the establishment. A similar problem throughout Turkey however, where 500ml water costs 0.5 TL. Some hotels provide it for free, which is sensible given the heat in summer, but others charge 2 TL. Even worse, sparkling mineral water is also only 0.5 TL in a shop, but here 3 TL. It was a little far away from some of the tourist attractions, and late night restaurants. If you don't mind a healthy walk it's fine. We found the rate a bit high (240 euros) given the facilities of the place (it is not a hotel but a guest house). Everything in Istanbul is uphill from where you happen to be.......(both ways). An absence of cleaning (we didn`t need it every day but 2-3 times during 8-days period will do). Can not find anything I disliked. Location, which is actually good, but the neighborhood is dirty and it seems unsafe, even though we didn't have any problem. Lots of stairs and up hill climb to return to facility. Well hidden secret (a bit hard to find when you arrive in Istanbul). Location was bad. The absence of house keeping. The tv did not work...no good Internet connection in our room...cigarette smoke in the eating area and hallways...very hard for taxis to find the house. Transport very far from hotel No open terrass in hotel Very noisy from road across Halic The walk road to the hotel is not safe and sometimes dangerous.
