I loved everything about this hotel. The history, location, ambiance, view, and what it stands for. The building was built in 1874 and restored to its original plan while staying true to its original style with wood floors and white walls in the bedrooms and the original marble and stones on the floor. The historical experience was invaluable. It was very clean, open and pleasant. The staff was very helpful and personable. The hotel is in the heart of the most happening place in Istanbul but it.
all reviews » Hotel is situated in a very convenient area of Istanbul, near Galata Tower and Istiklal Cad. Easy to walk everywhere, even though some areas are hilly. Hotel is clean and very well attended by staff. Breakfast is excellent. My wife was so excited about the heated marble floor in the bathroom. The renovation of the Adahan has been executed with taste to create a charming hotel that reflects multicultural nature of this wonderful city. Our host was available to ensure that we made the most of our stay. While a little inexperienced, the staff were keen to help us with our questions. We especially liked the rooftop terrace what a treat to have a city view for great photos and just to relax. We thought the layout of the rooms were unique. The rooms were very quite.The hotel felt more like a b&b. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The terrace on the top floor was absolutely great, the view, the sunset everything. Breakfast was also served there;) I also liked the furniture, the whole terrace was very cosy and homelike with all the flowers and plants;). The wonderful roof terrace for the excellent breakfasts. My room was right below the bar and I could hear the foodsteps and the dishes. The staff offered to change my room the next morning. Since I was usually the last one to leave the rooftop restaurant, the noise didn't bother me and I did not change the room but guests should be aware incase this is important to them. The corner bar (Good Mood). Music until 3:30am on Friday and Saturday. Not so much the music (which can barely be heard), it is really the pounding of the bass. Weekdays are quiet. My wife slept through it, but I am a light sleeper. The room was very cozy, not large and spacious like the photos on the website. The in-room safe had to be changed. It should be bolted down since it is an in-room safe! Not very safe. The room had a wooden chair at the desk and a small wooden bench both w/o cushion and both uncomfortable. One side of the bench had to be used for one suitcase the other side to sit or the other alternative was to sit on bed. The matrass of the bed wasn't good, it was far too hard at least for my back. Cushions on the dining chairs would have been great and perhaps a couple of rugs to make the bedrooms slightly less sparse. Very poor WiFi connection. We had to ask for second set of towels and glass for a double room. Lower level rooms are not well sound proofed from outside street noise. Leaving. Adahan felt like home. No shelf for the clothes. The shower gel was not refilled during our stay. No black-out curtain in our room, so that it was difficult to sleep late. The absence of noise-proofing coupled with the very central location means that sleep can be disturbed by street noise quite late into the early hours. If this bothers you too much, use earplugs. Worked for us! The terrace lighting needs improving. It is in a very, very noisy area, and there should be a bit more for so many stars. No body lotion in the shower for example. Dinners in the restaurant could have been much better. Really bad shower rose in the shower and no where to put the soap. Need black out curtains as the lights from the hotel across the alley were shining in the window all night. The personal was always kind, but could have been a bit more 'aggressive'. It would have been helpful if especially the reception personal had been a bit more knowledgeable - they did not know much about the city, restaurants etc. The rooms on the 4th floor need suitable noise reduction placed in the ceilings. The restaurant is directly above and all evening and from early morning you can hear loud footsteps and movements in the room from those walking about in the restaurant. It is very noisy. Also, would be nice to have more hot dishes available for breakfast. Shower head needed replacing as the water was coming out of the side of the head. The standard room is very standard, so if you want more than the very basic spend more for an upgraded room. For the same money you can get an excellent room or a room with WC separated by a curtain. But it is just a matter of negotiations to change the room. Some of the front desk staff needs more training. the staff is awful - they mistook every little thing in my booking and the checkout was a mess. Don't take #408 - it doesn't have a door in the toilet - only a tiny curtain. The staff was horrible. One guy at the desk did not even look up when you walked past him. For the price, I expected much more in terms of service. On the day we arrived, we were caught in the protests with our luggage, lost, and getting tear gassed. When we called for directions, there was such a language barrier that they could not help us find our way. Also the basic room is tiny with a bathroom that resembles one you'd find on an airplane. Rude staff, very uncfortable bed, creaky floorboards, over priced. Overall impression: the venue is not a sort of classified hotel, but family run backpackers' auberge. No luxury at all, particularly in small details, but rather clean and cozy. Restaurant and breakfasts are not worth to be mentioned: not bed, but nothing special with no choice. Seems that the general idea of Adahan was good but the implementation failed. room layout - it was quite a distance to go from bed to bathroom.
