The DaVinci is rated as a 5-star, and mostly lives up to that rating. The staff (especially), rooms, and amenities are excellent. Proximity to the Sandton Center Mall is a real plus. The food, while very good, is perhaps not outstanding. Breakfast, which was included in the room rate was good. I really liked the ability to order something off the breakfast menu without extra charge. The fact that you were not just a number. Especially as a lady traveling on my own they made sure I was looked after and very friendly and helpful. Would defnitely recommend the room with a balcony looking over the pool area.

The room was spacious comfortable, clean with contemporary design. If you want to be in a central Sandton anonymous location above a shopping mall the Davinci is for you. Excellent hotel. Had a formal evening on Saturday night and my transfer was suppose to pick me up at 6pm and was nearly 25 mins late -- without even notifying anyone that he will be late. But not the hotels fault (ok, maybe they should''ve followed up the first time I started worrying as it is a company which they booked for me), but they didnt. Like many hotels in business districts there is a problem during the evenings - prostitutes hustling for trade. While some people may look for this sort of distraction I found it quite annoying but equally, I appreciate the difficulty the hotel faces in having to deal with this sort of problem. It's not easy and it's not the fault of the hotel. Power plug for lap top and other devices hard to find. Even though a good choice of channels, no on-demand movies Elevators were a little slow, and complex to get to rooms. location of the gym was strange having to walk through reception to get there. I requested on 3 occasions before my arrival a large double bed and I got two singles. Breakfast is in a separate restaurant below the hotel. Breakfast was a collection of the usual luke warm pre cooked congealing bacon, eggs, sausages etc - very disappointing. Wireless internet access was cut off early in the morning on the last day before I even checked out. The hotel said they would look into that though. It's nothing really to worry about, just that the bathroom is in same place as closet/wardrobe. The air conditioner in my room was stuck on 24 degrees celcius and eventually after 4 attempts of reporting the problem I was moved at 3am. Needless to say I did not have a restful night. Nothing really. Wifi Internet kept dropping off even though it was free and unlimited. So had to make frequent calls to reception to refresh it whilst working, even though traffic size was low. the WIFI did not work properly as we struggled for hours. the noise from the bar on Friday which went on up to the early morning hours. The views on building roofs. check out at 10 AM is not acceptable room can not be darkened. - only a few TV channels, no German TV - no ironing board. Leaking shower heads, water puddling on the floor. Other meals don't meet the high breakfast standards. minor issues attention to detail when room was tidied or beds laid out transport was forgotten. The doors, they have to be slammed shut, its very annoying as the room next door, the people where coming and going out at all hours in the night.It sounds as if the door to the room you in is being opened.Every other hotel I have stayed at did not have to have its doors slammed shut. They could not find your reservation. i am a smoker but I did clean the veranda. room 610. Nothing. Nothing. Too early check out. reception hostile on arrival..treated like I was a poor visitor to defraud the hotel..I dont c myself visiting the hotel again.. the porter snubbed my tip. Room lights were confusing to operate. Bathroom lacked privacy. Room was advertised as "overlooking Mandela Square". Actually overlooked the roof top car park and construction site. Room was significantly over priced for what was delivered. Layout of the lobby was confusing. Took a couple of tries to find out where the checking desk was. Resturant.
