I stayed in Hotel Nepalaya for 3 nights before joining tour at Thamel eco resort. My stay at Nepalaya was wonderful! From the moment I walked in to the reception area I found the staff very friendly and with a good sense of humour!(Milan- the manager I'm talking) I was taken to my room(204) and shown around. Shortly after my arrival I got power cut but I still had a generator working. I went to check the roof top restaurant as it was about dinner time. The young man(Ramesh Dulal) came and intro.
all reviews » Staff are very helpful and knowledgable. They were so friendly that after the first day, I could remember most of them by first name. They sent a taxi at the airport to pick me up even though I forgot to tell them my exact arrival time. Later I found out that theytook the trouble of analyzing where I m comming from and identifying the flight!!! I was completely amazed!!! The manager (Milan) was always there with helpful recomendations on bars, shopping etc. The guy at the reception desk named U. I really like the people at Hotel Nepalaya. They are all amazing people, ready to help from their heart. It is very close to the shops. Hot was runs very good and they have emergency lights so I had lights even the city electricity cuts off. They are continuously trying to improve their facility. They were building a new entrance which is bigger and feel more comfortable walking back at night to hotel. They are trying to do something with the lift so even during the time of no electricity, peop. First of all there was very friendly stuff, always smiling and helpful, speaking very good english. Secondly there were the variety of the rooms for any request. Hot shower and comfortable beds. Very tasty breakfast served on the very top of the hotel there is situated the roof top restaurant. It was the real pleasure to seat there at any time and look at the roofs of Kathmandu. Finally we got all mountain trekking package needed include the best eglish speaking trekking guide whose name is. When I took a taxi from the airport to the hotel, the taxi driver by mistake brought me to a completely different place. When I got in touch with Nepalaya, the hotel staff explained the driver where to bring me and fully paid for the taxi, which was very nice of them! Before coming note that the hotel provides free transfer from the airport, which can save you around 600 NPR. Before arriving let the hotel staff know when you're coming. Overall I had a very good impression of the hotel. The staf. The staff were so accommodating!I've been travelling everywhere but only this hotel I found so homey,the hotel staff himself pick me up from the airport which I never expected at all and it's for free!Though the area is a bit intimidating,you can see lots of tourists walk by too..the rooftop,it's an awesome view! I am so happy when they gave me the yellow scarf as a token! It was all worth the stay besides gaining some camaraderie! :). the hotel staff is really nice - we were on a very early flight (had to leave hotel at 7) and they prepared the breakfast for us to take away, and when we left they gave us a piece of khadar for farewell...these small detail really make us feel good about staying here. so we decided to come back and stay 2 more days. the rooftop restaurant is good for chill out in a rainy morning. room is not big but very clean and well taken care of. You need to request room service and this wasn't obvious unless you aksed. Nothing else. The windows of some of the lower rooms face onto a central void without much light and can have a musty smell. Everything good. Top floor was noisey as we were directly under the Bar and Breakfeast room. Kathmandu always is off-power. So it is necessary to charge your batter when possible. Nothing. The rooms are quite basic; not a hint of luxury but that was to be expected in this price-range. Location was in middle of noisy, chaotic Thamel District. Most rooms on the elevator side of the building have Louvre windows which during the nite, let in the sounds of dogs barking, then at 6am Roosters crowing !!. access up a laneway was intimidating at night and hotel need a good lick of paint. The rooms were smaller than advertised. letsbookhotel.com has 33sqm, but the rooms are all the same at around 24.1 sqm including the bathroom. letsbookhotel.com says mountain or city views, but those are from the rooftop restaurant not the rooms.
