From the happy moment we arrived to the sad moment we departed we were looked after and made to feel special. Each and every member of hotel staff at this stunning, enchanting mediaeval castle pay incredible attention to detail with superlative standards of personal service. It is clear the staff work very well as a team and are equally very well led by the managers and Director; individually they take great pride in the hotel and delivering the best possible service. Our room was a truly lovel.

When you book, be wary that the rates for single versus double occupancy are quite different (I accidentally hit "single" instead of double on letsbookhotel.com, when I arrived, found the room would be 60 € more a night for double). Still worth it! Gorgeous rooftop patio where we had a bottle of wine at sunset both nights. Breakfast was the average spread. Dinner at il Gradale (on site) was not our favou. Excellent hotel. Just a stones-throw from Perugia but overlooking lovely countryside on the east of the town. Efficient and helpful staff, very clean characterful premises, spacious well kept rooms, good pool (not huge) with loungers and poolside amenities plus waiter drinks service and nice areas to sit out. Two restaurants, one Michelin starred, the other more reasonably priced but still good (where most people seemed to eat - established same chef cooked for both restaurants!). Lifts to all. I liked the fact that the Castello was near enough to the city, yet feels quite removed. I had arrived in the late afternoon at the hotel (having driven from Montepulciano), and was worried that I was not able to see much of Perugia. But the staff at the hotel were very helpful, providing clear instructions for driving to the city centre, and also where to park. I liked the feeling of living in a restored historical building and also the good value for the excellent location. From the moment we pulled up to the entrance we were mesmerized! After several days sightseeing in busy Rome, Castello Di Monterone was exactly what we needed. Relaxation in a tranquil setting. The service was top notch, rooms are beautiful, comfortable and very clean. Beautiful grounds and retored castle. Be sure to eat in the restuarants. We enjoyed 3 exceptional meals. We were sorry to have to leave for Florence after only a one night stay. The hotel is located in an ancient castle. The rooms are spacious and some of them has a wonderful view. The whole hotel is very romantic. The staff is very friendly, the breakfast has all what you can wish. The internet connection is excellent, with a wide coverage and a good bandwith, that allows to work without problems. The prices of the minibar are very moderate. The restaurant "Il Gradale" has fine food and wines at acceptable prices. The location is wonderful, and it is very close to the city center. The rooms are cosy and elegant, the castle is amazing and the view from the terrace takes your breath away. Breakfast is handmade and rich, with a nice selection of juices, cakes, cheese and croassants. We really had a good time and we want to be back in spring/summer to enjoy the castle at the open air and the beautiful swimming pool. The hotel mas amazing! This is the place we will visit again for sure. A couple from Serbia. We went to Perugia for Umbria Jazz and the hotel is in the perfect position to just get a taxi to the centre. We had our own car but parking is a huge problem when a festival of this kind is taking place so spending € 13 is nothing! The hotel is really lovely and the views of Perugia are to die for - the pool is small but I loved it anyway. Everything! Our rooms were lovely, the grounds were lovely, the staff were exceptional, the food in the michelin star restaurant was out of this world. And it was great value for money - we stayed in Spoleto in a nice hotel, but Costello di Monterone was on a different level. But cheaper!. Very good hotel suitable for touring Perugia and Assisi if you have a car. Located in a small castle which has been renovated with all mod cons. Good beakfast and helpful staff. It's difficult to find anything negative - but it would have been nice to have had tea making facilities in our rooms; and I'd suggest some sweeping up around the pools and terraces!. It wasn't a problem for me - but it is a good walk or taxi-ride from town. The sound of the squeaky bed in the room above (honeymooning couple)!. No hot tub!. Nothing to dislike. The main restaurant where we had breakfast and some dinners lacked atmosphere and when the sun was shinning would love to sit outside but staff didnt allow us to go out! Beautiful views from the terrace, but we felt we were locked inside> (the staff thought it was winter)..Another problem is that they need a better common area like a bar or larger area to chill as the room even though gorgeous did not have a sitting room or area just a bed.... Room comfortable but bath a little small.Hardly worth commenting about because everything else far beyond expectation. Absolutely nothing not to like. The food was excellent in the more casual restaurant but the lighting was too cold and harsh. It definitely took away from what could have been very enjoyable evenings. All that was needed was softer lighting and candles instead of fake flowers... The space was that interesting and the food that good!. The pool was a little dirty being a cooler month. Expensive. I wish our room and the restaurant was warm at least because at that time it really very cool at night. Can't think of a thing. massage was disappointing. Lighting is poor of course small windows in a Castle. Fine dinning presentation was excellent the food was good but not great for the price. Poor breakfast. Silk flowers instead of using wonderful flowers from the garden. Plastic cups in the bathroom instead of glasses. Room a little overpriced for the facilities offered. Hard to get to from train station not a lot of food options. Parking lot could us about two extra spots but no big deal!. I think the Michelin Star restaurant at Il Postale was very disappointing and definitely not up to expectations! Rather far from town but that was known from the start and is however the price you pay for the calmness, views and parking. Standard room had almost no windows, certainly none that could be opened easily yet maintain privacy. The room was far too hot, the hotel had changed all air con to heating in the rooms as it was early October, so we could not cool it down. The receptionist relayed the managers response to our request to cool the room....... 'leave the door open', thus breaching both our security and privacy. Very poor.

- Take the A1 and exit towards Orte/Terni/Perugia.
- Merge onto the E45.
- Take the exit toward Perugia/Cesena.
- Take the 2nd exit towards Gualdo Tadino/Valfabbrica.
- Turn towards Ponte Valleceppi.
- Turn left at the stop sign. After approximately 400 metres, turn left again.
- At the roundabout, continue straight on, crossing the village of Ponte Valleceppi.
- Pass over the bridge, continuing straight for 3 km towards Perugia/Casaglia.
- At the sign for Perugia, go on for 700 metres.
- Turn left round the church towards Ponte San Giovanni.
- After 300 metres you will find the hotel on the right-hand side.

From the north:
- Take the A1 and exit towards Valdichiana.
- Merge onto Raccordo Perugia/Bettolle towards Cesena.
- Exit towards Ponte Felcino/Valfabbrica/Gualdo Tadino.
