We were very friendly welcome at the reception. The guest house seems to be relatively new and is proper equipped including new modern rooms. The pictures on the website match with the on-site location as well. We had a "Double or Twin Room with Shared Bathroom" (for 90.70 EUR/night). The shared-use kitchen is absolutely extensively equipped and the shared-use living room is also additionally optimized for children by having an in-house playground. The breakfast is served as a buffet and extens.
all reviews » We have two rooms when two families travelling together. One family with yough couple and one family with older child. So we have one room with toilet to have one extra bed and one room without toilet. The room is clean. It is sweet to see the owner's pictures in the hall. The old couple were very friendly. We were late check-in and the kitchen was about to close but they still offered us some soap though the taste was okey.. We booked here because the places in Vik town was totally full and we. - Quiet & relaxing, off Ring Road #1 - Nice room with table, 2 comfortable chairs, nice bath, very spacy, place to put luggage, nice view overlooking pasture and mountains - Beds & pillows are very comfortable - Dinner was worth the extra cost. Delicious! - Breakfast was fairly basic and not as plentiful as other places, somewhat picked over. Not really a positive but not bad enough to be negatice. We love this guest house even thought it locate 15min fm Vik. It is comfort, clean and the staff is very helpful. We arrive at around 8:45pm, while the dinning restaurant would close by 9:00pm, she help to call to the restaurant to serve us before order cut. Its so great!! Breakfast is great! Next time i will spend more time there, so to enjoy the farm life. Steig was a big surprise for us, well located, steig is a farm where you can see lambs and you feel like you are at your own house, excellent breakfast, nice shower, we were in love with the place, Sofia is one of the staff members and took really care of us, the owners are very helpfull!!. That was the best place we had an opportunity to stay in Iceland. Friendly owner, spacious and comfortable rooms, good breakfast and lovely surroundings. And the dog was great as well! Would definitely recommend to anyone planning their visit to Iceland. The staff are friendly and the room is just like a normal 3-4 stars hotel room. I think it is more than a guesthouse. The breakfast is okay. There is a common kitchen and you can get some boiled water to refill your bottles if you don't like tap water. lovely and pleasant atmosphere, very kind staff, nice and clean rooms, excellent position quite close to both Vik and Skogafoss waterfalls, nice breakfast and lunch food. I suggest you in particular the creamy cauliflowers soup...so simple but so good. One of the best guesthouses where I have stayed. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Fully equipped kitchen, dining room and living room ready for guest usage. We have received free of charge upgrade form the shared bathroom to the private bathroom. Location was great, overlooking the e15 volcano. The host was very hospitable and helpful - she helped us book our glacier hiking tour. Our room was cosy and very comfortable. It's about 10 km from Vik, the biggest town nearby. It's a farm with very comfortable and big rooms. The owners were very helpful and friendly!!. The owner was nice and offered to wake us up when she saw northern light though nothing happened, of course. The guesthouse also had a kitchen in which we could sit down and chat with friends. It is a bit more expensive to live in this kind of rooms compared with where we live the day before in Selfoss Hotel. - No refrigerator, safe - TV has few channels, all in Icelandic. Nothing, it was perfect. The restaurant is quite expensive, but it is the only choice for dinner because you can find no buildings around. The main course is about ISK3000-3500, but the fish and lamb are good. about negative sides there are just 2 shared bathrooms out of a dozen of rooms, so, being overused, they can't be expected to be exaggerately clean...moreover there's just 1 large corridor where every room faces, so there's a little bit of noise....Anyway the place is lovely and i think it worth to spend some nights here. Everything was perfect. We didnt get the chance to try the raved lamb for dinner, as it requires advance notice for preparation. Do let the reception or host know early if you want the lamb for dinner!. Breakfast was small, dull and served late. We liked it all. I was going to stay here again later in my trip but suddenly the room price had doubled so I stayed instead in the hostel in Vik which was a lovely place to stay with the most helpful owner. I didn't realize how far away it was from Vik. And the food in Vik wasn't great so that was the only downside. If you can afford the food at the guesthouse, eat there. owners could be slightly more customer friendly, a bit more pro-active, other than that all great. The road leading to the guesthouse is not paved. It says on letsbookhotel.com that Guesthouse Steig serves dinner. Upon my arrival, the receptionist said that dinner was not available. This was disappointing especially when this meant that I had to drive to Vik, the nearest town, to find a restaurant after having driven through it to reach Guesthouse Steig!. Distance from Vik/Ring road. The Internet was a bit patchy and the room was very hot at night. However we were able to open the window letting in a cool breeze, which helped a lot. Breakfast wasn't great (old fruits, fake orange juice, not that much choice but I arrived 30 min before service ended). Breakfast was quite poor. Communal kitchen area was a bit chilly. The food was a little overpriced in the kitchen, but it was a delicious meal. A bit far from Vik. Didn't have any issues. The breakfast, the long gravelled driveway. Showers were low pressure and difficult to adjust. More choice for breakfast however there was still plenty food offered. Nothing. Its a great place!. Access road was bumpy gravel (2 km).
