Location, location, location!! At the entrance to a spectacular fjord, scenery and wildlife abound.
The cooked dinners were excellent, showcasing great home cooking of produce grown onsite, or at least, caught in the neighbourhood.
For us, the seclusion was perfect - 4WD access only, or a 4km walk from the carpark. Walkers will enjoy the journey to the lodge.
Skalanes is a unique experience, an idyllic farm 16 km from the last village, at the entrance of the fjord, with fantastic birdlife and much more. Ole the owner and manager together with the volunteers run it in a very relaxed and friendly way.all reviews »
If paradise exists this must be quite close to it. Everybody was sad as
we left after 2 wonderful nights including polar lights. The area is
simply wonderful. Skalanes is still the most fantastic place we have
stayed in Iceland.
One of our most memorable stays in Iceland. Beautifull surroundings, interesting to discover nature,the place where we saw puffins, nice common rooms to have breakfast/diner, interesting people to meet.

We liked the remote location, enjoyed the river crossings. Brilliant views. I would recommend that people should stop here for more than one night to get the benefit of the place.
A real gem at the end of the fjord, although you have to drive ~8kms on an F-road equivalent road, with 3 exciting 4wd fording. They trying to be as eco-friendly as possible.
Great atmosphere right at the ocean and in the middle of fantastic nature! Great stuff and wonderful dinner. Could come closer to the puffins than nowhere else in iceland!.

Remote location very different from most places. Only book if you understand what place is like. 4x4 access or walk will put most people off.

this place is really far remote. You do need a 4x4 and some courage to pass the rivers, if you do have worries better take the offered pick-up service.
My Toyota Rav 4 was to small to cross the river on the way :-( i'm a coward...
Difficult way to access, and far from everything.
We read that here you can taste local delicious food. We should not believe everything. The worst food we have not met. Raw vegetables brought in a plate and a small piece of fish are not tasty.
