I'd like to start by saying what wonderful owners the couple who run
Smáragata Rooms are. They are very friendly, welcoming and will do their
very best to accommodate your (reasonable) needs. The property is in a
sleepy, quiet residential street but is by no means in a bad location -
infact, it's excellent. The guest rooms have a separate entrance of
their own so that you can come & go as you please, without
disturbing the family who live above. The bsí bus station is literally

Iceland was fantastic! The countryside was unique, and we especially enjoyed the Golden Circle tour, and the Blue Lagoon. Our Smaragata 1-bedroom apartment with kitchenette and private facilities was close to the city bus terminal, and an easy 10-15 min walk to the city and major attractions. The owners were friendly and very helpful.
I stayed for 2 weeks at Smáragata Rooms, it was probably the best
accommodation I have ever stayed in. The owners were so attentive,
everything was so clean, the rooms were really nice. The kitchen
was well equipped. The owners were really nice people. Would
definitely return.
Beautifully designed rooms in the basement of a house in a nice quiet neighbourhood close to the BSI bus station. Well-equipped kitchen to use. It is about 10 mins walk to the shopping areas of Rekyavik. We had a car and could park outside the house easily.
Lovely, clean rooms. Lots of space. Guesthouse owner very accommodating - stayed up late to receive me at 01:00 after a red-eye flight into Reykjavik. Free wifi. Use of kitchen facilities and shelf space for food. Clean bathroom (shared).

The location is extremely nice.
Some people may find the shared bathroom not to their liking, but it
didn't bother me. The shower is powerful and easy to unjust the heat
and the cosy little separate washroom with toilet is adequate.
Only one shower and toilet for 4 double rooms. Only sink for brushing teeth was in the toilet and was very tiny.
All the rooms are in the basement, but in a safe residential area. I only mention this because I was a solo female traveller, so safety was a concern for me.
Only minor ones:
Cleaning teeth/face is not comfortable, you have to do it in a tiny washbase which is in the toilet room.
Bread tosting was missing.
There was nothing we didn't like! The Smaragata Rooms were wonderful. They were exactly what they advertised themselves to be. We love them!.

Rooms decorated in modern, with emphasis on black, white and gray colors. Even their cat was black and white! Seemed austere and cold.
