I liked the free on-site parking, the owner offering to carry cases, the unusual old building, the very attractive dining room with pleasant food if you did not feel like exploring the town that night, the lovely clean brasserie near by for coffee with a croissant bought from the baker's next door, the closeness of the hotel to the town, and especially the brilliantly lit bedroom which actually made reading easy, rather than the dim, glow worm like semi-darkness of most hotel rooms. all reviews » Stopped over here on a drive from Bordeaux to Champagne. We were two couples staying in a four person room on the top floor of the main building (two doubles). Room was large enough for all of us, clean and comfortable. Wifi worked well in our room. We ate a nice meal at the hotel's restaurant that night. Staff were all friendly and spoke enough English for us not to have to resort to our embarrassing small amount of French. In summary, no complaints!. Very central location. Spacious double Garden Room with an en suite wet room. Had a kettle in room which was a lovely surprise(doesn't happen much in France)We enjoyed an evening meal there which was tasty and good value. The breakfast in the morning was enjoyable too. Very secure parking for m/cycle in garage. Good menu. Nice garden where good food was served on a warm evening. Locals used the restaurant. Helpful staff. Easy Wi-Fi connection Comfortable bed. We only stopped over on the way to the Alps but it was a very pleasant stop-over with for the French a quite extensive breakfast and enough to get us going. Location for travelling to Paris was good for a stop-off. Twin room was a good size and had a shower over a bath. Quite, plenty of parking for the car. Everything was fine. I only have a general "France" comment that 17-20 Euros for a half bottle of local wine is the same price as a lowest "Menu". Great service.Allowed our party to garage our motorcycles. Excellent food. Close to centre of Avallon in quiet street. Good value for money. It was easy to find and convenient. We were travelling from Italy to the UK with our cat so it was a good place to stop for the night. Very, very occasional French drain smell down stairs in the hall- but where in France do you not get this o The hotel itself The rooms are a little small, but have everything you could want. No elevator in the main building. Did not hinder us, however less mobile people may wish to request a room on the lower floor or in the extension out the back. Nothing to dislike. Breakfast only fait. Stairs were narrow and winding and no lift. Nothing. The weather was awful. It rained from the moment we arrived to the moment we left but that was not the fault of the hotel; it just made it less pleasant for us. Breakfast room a bit cramped; posh coffee machine caused queues and didn't provide good coffee. We found the staff to be a bit cool. The way the breakfast is set up is rather cramped and it's difficult to get at individual items, but that's a minor point really. The older part of the hotel is not as nice as the newer part. Ask for the rooms near the parking lot. They are only 5 Euro more and much better rooms. Decor a bit garish but that is personal taste!. No kettle available in our room. Whilst hotel parking was advertised the car park was full by the time we arrived (6pm). However there was plenty of street parking in front of the hotel. Breakfast could offer fresh bread/bakery instead of the ones that looked from previous morning. Separate beds were not really separate. Only two staff working in the hotel covering reception and restaurant therefore it took 3 hours to complete our meal. Some food very good, but the steak was really disappointing... Bathroom floor flooded from bath plumbing. Said wifi was available in room but wasn't. Least friendly of all hotels over the last month in France. Price almost the same as 4 star in Roissy but appalling by comparison.
