The hotel itself is quite beautiful. You can see its old world beauty but they have managed to stay modern. Staff is also incredibly friendly and accommodating. We arrived around 8:30 a.m. (far ahead of check-in time) due to an early flight. We only wanted to drop off our bags, but the hotel was extremely helpful and managed to get a room cleaned up for us right away. They really went above and beyond.
all reviews » Amazing historical building set in a beautiful part of Zagreb. It's a 10 minute walk through beautiful manicured gardens to the city centre. The shower and bathroom area was amazing. Beautiful marble floors and giant shower head. Huge and very comfortable bed. Lovely terrace to enjoy a drink. A real slice of luxury. The staff were very friendly and helpful, not to mention professional, the room was clean and very nice. The food at Zinfandel was simply excellent, as were the wine recommendations. Many people may not realise that Croatia is very big into the slow food movement. Great luxury at an affordable price (although I believe we got our room at a discount to the normal rate). Art deco design. Very convenient location near the main train station, and old part of the town only a short walk away. Generous check-out time (12 noon). Attentive staff who assisted kindly when we were presented with an exorbitant laundry bill to my standards. Very willing to discuss options and negotiate an outcome to keep everyone happy. The bed was really uncomfortable; but that was the only complaint. There are more central hotels. Ther was on suite available. In the past we have stayed at the Park and always got the suite because we were traveling with family. This time a suite would have been nice. In the renovation the Esplanada lost some of its "old world charm". A lamp shade needed repair. A bit of a walk to the upper town area where most of the restaurants/attractions are. Nothing really, everything was good. the only thing... the tv could be newer. Price of breakfast. The check in was very poor...one person on duty only, we waited for 15 minutes to check in after a 5 hour drive from Split. Not even offered a seat. No apology and when we complained we told that the others were on a break...too bad almost. A very bad start to our stay here and inexcusable in a 5 star hotel. Although the quality and quantity of the breakfast was excellent, consisting of a superb buffet with various additional hot dishes to order, there was only one price. And it isn't cheap! So you pay the full price, whether you have only the buffet, or you have the buffet plus a hot-food order as well. No good restaurants nearby, you have to walk a couple of miles to get something decent to eat. Food in the hotel is way too expensive. We asked for a transportation from the airport to the hotel but we didn't get it and at checking out they included the transportation in the bill !? But after we explained that we didn't get the transport it was immediately removed, also the bed was rock hard! And the billows was annoyingly soft!. Nothing. Wedding parties were held and hall staff in the hotel and restaurant looked very busy during this time. - no block out curtains so woke earlier than intended. poor air-conditioning in the room the room was very warm and the air-con could not be adjusted. All good. Nothing. Televisions are still from 90's .. they must be changed. In fact nothing but expensive breakfast. It's a little far away from the touristic old town (10 min walk to the main square, 15 to the old town). we didnt get the types of bed we requested, so one of our sons had to sleep on the sofa-bed. Everything was more than ok. The hotel was grand, but in a slightly dated way. Break fast was expensive so we eat outside the hotel. No dislikes, it was wonderful. It is very nice. Nothing, we liked everything. breakfast was too expensive for Zagreb standards.
