The Welcome Stranger Hotel is an old style, great value place to stay in Hobart, and it has Wi-Fi. It is an easy walk to Salamanca and CBD. You can sit in a sunny position by a large window, watching the people and cars go by, while eating breakfast. It is cosy in the evening watching TV and sitting on a comfy lounge by the fireside while eating dinner. We have stayed here twice. The rooms have an ensuite and the beds are comfortable.
all reviews » The staff at the Welcome Stranger are terrific. They are extremely helpful and very welcoming. We travelled with a 16 month old and found that our room was well setup to accomodate not only the adults but the baby as well. The food was extremely good value for money and delicious to boot. It is also conveniently locate close to all attractions within Hobart. A really good Hobart experience! It was raining throughout our 4-night stay, so it was really comforting that we got so lucky with our hotel. The owner tells good stories, the fireplace downstairs keeps warm..And with a convenient location combined with friendly staff, everything was at our feet to go and discover. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was not noisy, the staff were friendly and the price was excellent The room, though old fashioned, was comfortable, roomy and clean. Friendliness and helpful staff. Location is ideal for walking to places of interest ideally situated for ferries and Salamanca market. Although very basic breakfast offered it was included in the price. the staff were exellent. the food was good. the drinks were a very reasonable price. alovely woodheater burning in the lounge area. Being close to Christmas the revellers from Carols in the Park held just over the road were a bit rowdy but this was out of the hands of the owners. The pub is very popular so it's a bit noisy but always closed by 12. The breakfast could have been a bit better, but was OK. The parking was a bit difficult to manoeuvre the motorbikes but it was secure with the gates shut early. Car park a bit tight. I found the shower over the bath a bit of a problem and would have appreciated a safety bar in the shower. nothing. none. The room was ok but the toilet need improvement . no air cons but considering the cheap price it's reasonable. Noise from outdoor smoking area until very late!. Decor rather tired Small room. It's a pub accommodation so I got for the money I spent and was happy with that. I didn't realise it was more like a youth hostel than a hotel. Very basic rather worn out look and feel to the whole place. Towels were clean but stained and very old. Bedroom had a rather unpleasant stale smell all the time. the room was very small including the bathroom.having to carry everything from the carpark up the fire escape to our room.
