The Southern Cross was well situated for our purpose - access to the Mater Hospital - and was reasonably priced. the Staff were friendly and accommodating. For example, they were willing for us to leave our car after check out so we could visit the hospital without the need to find and pay for a park. Very convenient with a two bedroom apartment, great for a family. wonderful area - close to city, close to good pub over he Rd - easy access - to everthing - very friendly staff at reception area - thankyou for making us feel so welcome.

There were a couple of repairs which were needed - a light bulb which needed replacing, and the water was slow escaping from the hand basin. However, when we reported these to the staff, they were pleased we did so, and said the problems would be attended to as soon as the maintenance man was available. it was a little noisy - but then you cannot expect anything else when your next to the main Rd. - shut the doors all OK. - need to check shower heads - little blocked - showers not strong (water pressure). door handle need to be replaced in Unit 48A. Noises air conditioner, no hooks or rails in bathroom, vanity located outside bathroom, dripping shower. Not many cooking untensils. Bed a little hard. No donnas supplied for the beds. An airconditioner outside near/ our, Room 34A, made such a noise we didn't get much sleep.Not our air conditioner as we switched it off. Only one very thin blanket for bed, although there was an airconditioner in the bedroom. Nothing. Noise from the main road. tiny rooms. All good. No cupboards. No chairs on balcony. Bin in bathroom had a dirty lid. Carpet torn. Difficulty getting into room with key, second time this has happened. No fan in bathroom. Kept hitting feet getting in and out of shower recess because its too high. Road noise. Rom next to the road with the sirens goining most of the night. the blinds were completely see through so not only were we awake at the crack of dawn but there is a smoking nook on the top floor near our front door & any time some stood there to smoke they could see in and stink the unit out. Also we froze as the heater wasn't working and there was only 1 thin blanket. Mould in shower recess, could not turn shower off, hot water running all the time, waste of water and energy. No iron in room. No tissues supplied, room dusty, not up to 4 star standard!. sheets wernt cleaned each day / beds made. We arrived back to our room at 11pm to find the air con did not work. Room temperature 11 degrees & only one thin blanket. What an awful, uncomfortable, freezing sleep we had. Reception on phone when checked out. Sent email once home but have had no reply. Your. Rooms were very small. Not what we expected. Shower - hot water tap could not be turned OFF It was reported to Reception straight after booking in!!!!!. Cockroaches. Very run down. All bathroom fittings nearly falling off. Couldn't have a coffee as cup was dirty and needed throwing out. No clock in room. Sliding door to outside open 'balcony' was dodgy and hard to lock. Stained carpet, hadn't emptied the bin and the room smelt disgusting when entering the room and it took us a while to figure out why it smelt! Mirrors had hand marks all over. Bed was uncomfortable. The shower was atrocious, I needed to wash my hair but was afraid to as the water went from cold to very hot and I was afraid of freezing my head or burning it, no adjusting of the taps helped, I was so glad to get home and have a decent shower. No Blankets, No lights in kitchen, carpet dirty, Remote batteries flat - lack of maintenance. I requested a quite room however our room was on the main road and very noisy. Although the room appeared clean the drapes and carpet were badly stained which down graded our impression of our stay. There was no soap, no coat hangars, no hand towels. I wouldn't even rate it as 3 star.And they want to charge $5 an hour for internet, they got to be kidding. I definitely will not be staying there again. Oh and the carpet needs restretching, and the carparking tight as. the room was cold no blankets provided. just about everyone i spoke to had something wrong with there room. Booked for extra bed and was told the bed couldnt fit in room! Why have the bed as an option. No face washes. Bed was terrible. Furnishings were very old. Did not feel i got value for money. Freezer had lots of ice build up in it, no way i would use the ice. Wasn't sure how long it would of been there. Was told it was 4 star standard and it was far from it. Hard to rate other staff as ididn't see any. Our room wasn't ready on arrival. 1st room:The shower head was broken off. Moved into 2nd room :The plumbing was blocked (bathroom became swimming pool) Light on vanity was missing. Filthy ashtray on outside table.(we non smokers). Paid full amount despite all of the above.
