When we checked in the lady was really friendly and we were upgraded to an ocean view room free of charge which was great. Not too big, not too small, not too fancy, not too plain: relaxed, casual elegance. The food is excellent. Most of the staff have been there for years. The hotel is at the far end of Waikiki Beach, next to the Nanitorium, across from Kapiolani Park and close to Diamond Head--in short, away from the madness of Waikiki but within walking distance.

The staff was courteous and very efficient especially handling large teenage groups. The cleaning staff kept the floors immaculate. Elevators and card system worked very well. My daughter will be attending grad school at U. of H. next year, and he was very good at giving us info. on how to reach the university via the bus system.
