I work as receptionist also (in 4-star hotel btw), and I must say that I really impressed by level of their hospitality and work quality. We felt really welcome here during our stay. They answered all our questions and helped us all the time. They were so nice with us helping and greeting all the times with a big wide smile on the face. They are really great! Rooms are big, clean and spacious. The place is just next to the metro station so there is no problem to get anywhere you want.   Extremely friendly and helpful staff, having a 24h reception is very convenient for late check-ins and early check-outs. By the way, the hostel serves a good cup of Mocha! Overall, Happy Dragon Hostel is value for money for budg - Excellent customer service. Reception and bar staff speak excellent English and go out of their way to help you. Trip to Mutianyu was excellent value for money and despite being stuck in a traffic jam was a fantastic day out. The hostel is an easy 5 min walk from the Dongsi metro station. Very easy to find. Don't be put off by comments which say it's hard to find.

  The staff were incredible, they were great fun and really made us feel at home. The manager was very helpful and made it easy for us to plan our trips and get around with all of his advice. The great wall tour that they provided was excellent away from the touristy locations it was a great experience. The location was good just a 10minute walk from tian'anmen squa - The location is perfect, just 10 min walk away from Qianmen and Tiananmen Square, you can also find subway and bus quite easily around there. The cafe bar is really nice, good place to meet friends. Beds are pretty comfortable, I stayed in a 14 bed dorm, quite a big room, not crowded at all. The A/C works well, hot water 24 hrs, and oh! the bar opens 24 hrs as well, which is a bonus! The price is quite reasonable in Beijing, esp at central area. 4 Stars Recommend

I don't know if all the hutong hotels are like this one, - It was very close, within walking distance, of two of the most famous hutongs. Very comfortable beds with a modern bathroom.
