The building is beautiful with traditional decor and large stained glass window at the main stair case. The staff were really friendly and could not have been more helpful, providing everything from an annotated map to the city centre - without me asking for it, to menus for local restaurants. The breakfast in the morning was cooked to order in a cosey and friendly dining room and did not disappoint. The food was delicious and I was particularly impressed that they had a vegetarian hot breakfas.

Lovely room , well dressed and furnished.En-suite more than roomy enough and fit for purpose, which isn't always the case with guest houses we've used in the past. Location is peaceful, and in a nice area. Pleasant and friendly staff could not be more helpful, and the breakfast sets you up for the day, truly a treat!! Private parking at the back of the house (free), is a bonus. We both rate Ascot House as being as good . On arriving at the hotel we were greeted by the owner.. who was VERY helpful.. he took us up to our room.. & all I can say that in the past 20yrs I have stayed in lots hotels.. but on enterin our room I was blown away.. there was'nt one thing that I would have change.. the size of the room.. the on suite.. the cleanliness.. the breakfast in the mornin was outstanding.. the staff were so helpful.. me & my boyfriend were so please we booked to return again in the new yr.. Ascot House is a beautiful, tastefully appointed traditional building. A family run business-the service was excellent & very friendly. Our attic room was clean & comfortable. The breakfast was excellent quality & cooked to perfection. The best I have had in a hotel! The walk into York took between 15-20 minutes & in the evening was an easy short taxi ride-efficiently organised by the hotel. York is a lovely city to visit & I happily recommend this hotel. Ascot house hotel is a Victorian house which has retained a lot of its original features but has been updated to provide comfort. It has a very warm welcoming atmosphere. Our room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. It had a lovey en-suite bathroom. Free wifi. Lovely breakfast! The staff were very efficient and pleasant. On arrival the owner gave us a lot of useful information and was very helpful. The Hotel was beautifully presented with decor in keeping to the house, the room we were given had a lovely four poster bed and very modern bathroom. The hotel staff went out of their way to assist you, providing maps and menu samples for local restaurants to try out during our stay. This Accomadation was superb and i would highly recommend to anyone wishing to stay in York. The house was old and had lovely features like the large stained glass window as you went up the stairs. The room and the en-suite were excellent as was the breakfast, a large selection of meats, fresh fruit, cereals and a scrummy english breakfast followed by toast and marmalade. The B & B was also in a good location for the city only took a 10min walk. Beautiful decor and great attention to detail. Very homely and warm. Gorgeous period style rooms but with great modern touches like flat screen tv and great walk in shower. Very comfortable and good size room, large bathroom, cookies with tea and coffee facilities and very tasty home made breakfast with lots of choice. Would definitely come back!. The staff were friendly and offered advice on sites to see and things to do. Our room was very clean and the house itself was very neat with quality, handsome furnishings. The area is nice where the house is located and we were able to walk to the old town with our 11 and 5 year old daughters no problem. There is a swing park just next door. Liked everything - lived up to expectations and just 15 mins walk to the City. Lovely spacious room with easy 'come and go as you like' policy. Big en suite with large shower - Next time we visit we will book a room with a bath as our bones would have appreciated a good soak at the end of a busy day exploring York. We don't usually take time out to put comments in writing and being a nurse I'm particularly fussy about cleanliness and customer service and my partner an architecht/ designer fussy about building asthetics and decor. We have to say the whole Ascott experience was just lovely.We will definately be back!. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ascot House,it was spotlessly clean and our room was decorated to a high standard ,especially the bathroom.The owner was very welcoming.The breakfast was superb,with plenty of choice.Well situated 15 minutes from the minster.We definitely hope to return in the future. The breakfasts were really great and so were the staff and nothing was any trouble, you got exactly what you asked for. They have a large selection of menus on display from restaurants in and around York which we found very helpful. A great place to stay and the four poster bed was so comfortable. The staff is very nice, and he is willing to help us to find some good restaurant, find the beautiful attractions and he even print the bus schedule for us. And the room is so nice. I went there with my mom, and the room had two beds and looked clean, tidy and awesome. The breakfast is also nice !. Our first time at Ascot House, but won't be our last. We stayed on the top floor and although the stairs were a little steep, the climb was worth it as our room was lovely bright and spacious. Breakfasts were great with plenty of choice and the staff were all friendly and helpful. staff were really friendly from the moment we entered the hotel to the moment we left including allowing us to have a choice of rooms, get our keys early and allowing us to park our car till later on day of departure. A good location for visiting York, walking distance to the city itself and right on a bus route. A return visit is definitely a possibility. Very helpful instructions on how to walk to the historic center of York and the fact that there was a free walking tours available each day. There was a beautiful and entertaining lawn bowling green right next door - visible from the dining room. Excellent rooms,excellent staff who were very helpful,especially Shona(apologies if I got the lady's name wrong,she was the daughter of the owners) a lovely person.There as a base for my daughter's wedding and couldn't have chosen a better place. I have to say the Ascot Hotel was the best hotel we have stayed at and we have been to a few. Cleanliness is important to us and this hotel is spotless. We cant wait to go back. 1. Ascot house is very good value and maintains excellent standards ,is only a short walk from the city, recommended. We loved everything about the stay, ideal location out of the bustle but not too far to go. Great staff and food. The 15 minute walk to the city centre is an honest estimate, at an easy walk. However, if you are not independantly mobile, or the weather was inclement, it could be an inconvenience for some having to use the car or call a taxi. This is really nit-picking, but we wanted to give a balance to the review, and this is the only possible negative we could think of. Nothing at all.. Everything was perfect for us & the steeper stairs to the attic posed no difficulties but if you have mobility problems I'd suggest you ask for a room on the first floor. We like everything about the hotel. Nothing, I had no complaints whatsoever!!!. We were only staying one night unfortunately:-(. only minor point the bed was a little hard. Nothing. The car park is a bit small but on street parking is possible. The top floor rooms are a bit of a struggle to get to if you have any mobility issues. Neither of which would stop a return visit. Nothing. The bathroom was small, if that would bother people; the walls were perhaps a bit thin. But nothing would put us off going back. Having to leave!. We liked everything. I found my room a little cold (I'm 83) but my family's room was quite warm. Was a little too far out for our needs as i have a husband who hates walking even though it was only 15 mins. although the bus stop is very close. Its £2 each on the bus but only £4.60 in a taxi. Nothing. none. Loved every aspect!. 1. You have to have 20-30 minutes for walking from the hotel to the old town of York. But it's not a problem. Nothing. Stayed in family room which had super king sized four poster bed and 2 singles. The main bed however was far too big for the room with little to get either side, we were under each others feet a lot. Also kettle was too big to fit under the tap to fill it!. Parking was in a secure small rear courtyard but parking spaces were very limited which was not helped by the host family members occupying 3-4 of the spaces. Due to the only vacant space under a tree our car was covered in large amounts of bird droppings, we had to pay ten pounds to wash off at a near by hand wash. The owner is aware that the birds are a problem but offers no solution. A hose and brush should be made available to guests. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Only being able to stay for two nights!. We had a room overlooking the smoking area and lots of people smoked morning and very late at night. It was the only bad thing about the room. Nothing really. Nothing all positives.
