We love Country Villages we would definitely stay again. - We wanted a real good value pub as a walking base for the weekend, we found one right in the middle of the lakes. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for us - big thanks. The food was straightforward, good quality and great value. The beer was exceptional and again great value. We loved all the fires and so did our dogs. The rooms we ok, nothing special, but clean and comfortable. We will be returning again.

But, able to do any number of walks from the front door and railway also on doorstep - Setting by the river and the garden and trees. Very friendly feel with the staff all open and welcoming. Open kitchen policy so you can make yourself a picnic or snack.

  I love Eskdale and come in every year. Usually stay at Stanley but was full so booked Woolpack which we also knew for food/drink. Really enjoyed our stay, staff were great and good value for money.   Hosts Deb and John very easy-going and helpful with good tips even for seasoned walkers who knew the area! Breakfasts truly wonderful and catered for all diets. Main course: choice of full English, smoked haddock, kippers, porridge (best I have ever had!) All cooked to perfection. Great views of red squirrels, jays and many garden birds from break... o que as pessoas dizem » fast room, plus deer in garden on one occasion. Bed was comfy. Room smallish but fine and we had our dog with us who Deb and John made a great fuss of - It was a truly beautiful place to stay. If you enjoy wildlife and walking its perfect. I woke up to see the deer in the orchard outside our bedroom window, a wonderful start to our weekend. Watching the red squirrels and different types of birds whilst having breakfast [ a fantastic Full English] was wonderful. Extremely friendly owners, dog friendly. The stars are amazing to look at . We are definitely going again and have recommended it to our friends. 10 out of 10 from us.

  Excellent value for money. Exceeded our expectations for a youth hostel.......where else could you get a clean, comfortable bed and a full English breakfast for less than £30? Would have been even less if two members of our party hadn't dropped out!   We stayed in one of the cottages and it was beautiful. So clean and well maintained, just lovely. We arrived extremely late (00.10) but were greeted with a warm, friendly smile by Steve who was so attentive. He showed us around and made sure we were settled and he couldnt of been nicer if he tried. It is only a 5 - 10 minute drive to Scafells so great location for walking which is why we were staying there. O - A real gem. Top quality accommodation at reasonable prices. Large well appointed rooms in a stunning location. A pleasure to find an establishment of this standard that serves good honest pub grub at reasonable prices - just what you need when climbing the hills. Good to see a hotel supporting local real ale brewers not not just the usual 'fizz' that most hotels offer. Food and drink prices all very reasonable, nice not to have a shock when paying the food and bar bill. Staff all very friendly
