  The very warm welcome, the staff could not be more helpful, the location was relaxed and quiet but perfect by the ferry. The continental breakfast with its vast array of fresh food was the best I have ever had and I visit many hotels in many countries. The cooked breakfast was excellent too. The room was spacious and very well equipped The whole ... wat mensen zeggen » experience was lovely,the lodge was very good value and should be rated at least 8.5 - Linda, Alfie and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Their knowledge of the area helped us find our way around Orkney. The lodge was immaculate and our room was first class with a lovely view. We chose continental breakfast, great selection of cereal, fruit etc. Houton Bay Lodge was our favourite accommodation during our holiday. Value for money.

  I have been visiting Orkney for the past 18 years and stayed in most of the hotels in Kirkwall, but for the past few years I have chosen the Ayre. Although Orkney is like going back in time - but only in a good way - this hotel offers very comfortable and spacious modern rooms and fine dining, using local produce which is always good. My stay is always a pleasure. - The staff at the hotel were fantastic,the Orcadians must be the most friendliest people on the planet.The Hotel was immaculate,and in the heart of Kirkwall,they went out of their way to help us.

  Staff was friendly and helpful, though the wait staff was inexperienced and had some issues. Great location in a small town very near the heart of neolithic Orkney - just a few miles to the major sites which let you be flexible in avoiding the tour buses. Food was excellent in the restaurant, breakfasts were delicious, both featured local meats an... wat mensen zeggen » d foods. - The room was comfortable and clean, the food was excellent and owners and staff were warm, friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an ideal central location in a quiet village, is easy to find and has ample parking spaces. I wanted a relaxing holiday and this is exactly what I got.

  From the moment we arrived we were greeted and made to feel welcome. Lorna showed us the facilities and our room which was grand. The bar meal that night was very good, our 2nd night in the restaurant also very good. Our room for the 2nd night which was booked after a decision to stay another night was quite okay even though it had only a private... wat mensen zeggen » bathroom separate from bedroom. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Would love to revisit for a longer stay. - I found Lorna the manager and her staff to be excellent. Views from the rooms, bar and dining room are stunning. I had a laptop and an iPad with me and never felt like turning either of them on. Food was excellent. Stayed in two separate rooms. One in the hotel the other one of the garden rooms and loved them both. It's not brand new, but has character by the bucketload and I can't recommend the hotel enough.

  The location was excellent. 5-10 minutes walk into the town centre. Little traffic and our hosts were great. The breakfast was excellent. We wanted for nothing. Comfortable bed and a great atmosphere. we would certainly stay again! - Friendly, considerate and flexible; very guest focused, clean comfortable rooms. Very pleasant atmosphere.
