  the hotel and the service was excellent considering our large group arrived at the hotel at ungodly hours 4a.m. The hotel was so good that most opf us are at some time in future hoping to pay a return visit and will be in our best hotel guide book.   The accommodation is a little difficult to find the first time but is ideally situated once you know where it is. The room was pleasant and overlooked the aviary/owls. Lovely linen and towels were provided. The breakfast is served in an old stable block which is hidden away down some stairs in the courtyard. The breakfast was absolutely wonderful ... wat mensen zeggen » with the nicest bacon I have tasted in a long time. - Everything! Comfortable and unusual accommodation, lovely breakfast in the converted stables, freedom to wander around the beautiful castle gardens, warm welcome, excellent service....a fantastic stay, would thoroughly recommend staying here either to explore the area, or even just to visit the castle itself.

  This was a lovely stay in the Lakes District and we really couldn't have chosen better. We used the B&B as a stop over in our travel from Edinburgh to London and we arrived at 5pm thinking we would head down to the nearest town for a meal, but instead, after the warm invite and lovely hosts we decided to stay and be treated to their evening di... wat mensen zeggen » nner meal option. The food (breakfast and dinner) was excellent, the room was spacious, modern, comfortable, clean and lovely. We loved the honesty ba - I loved everything about the place. It's location (very close to Scafell Pike, Wast Water, and other great places in the Lake District), it's character, the breakfast, the comfort of the room (it was a huge ensuite room with a nice bath), the honesty bar, and above all, the owners. They are extremely friendly and very helpful. A lovely couple. I definitely recommend this place.

  The setting is quiet and tranquil with only a short drive to other larger villages, the coast and mountains. The guesthouse was stunning, beautiful interior and very comfortable. Our room was lovely with incredible views overlooking the dramatic countryside. The home cooked breakfast was delicous! However, the highlight of Carlton Green was - Loved the secret, untouristy beautiful location close to Scafell Pike (15min drive), the gorgeous listed building with luxury interior decor including wood burning stove in lounge and 4 poster bed, clean throughout, excellent shower and beautiful bath, wonderful full English breakfast included, advice on local restaurants, pubs and walks given by helpful hosts (even gave us printouts of directions and weather conditions)...Best of all was the care and consideration of Alison and Alan.   The Old School is the best accommodation we've ever experienced. The setting is terrific, between the mountains on one side and the sea on the other. It is within a short drive of Wasdale, so it was ideal for our hike up Scafell Pike.
