We had a wonderful stay with our family- the rooms are bit cramp, but we knew this. We wanted to stay near union square and that we did. We were able to really enjoy everything in walking distance. We would return again. We normally stay around the corner but after such a lovely stay at The Sir Frances Drake, we would definiltey stay there again. Being in a historic hotel Conceirge Katherine extremely helpful and friendly - also other staff - Whei - asked and got tour of sleepeeze room!! Beefeater and staff friendly Pizza and wine tasting hour great, met interesting travellers at the hotel. Bed very comfortable. Fab. location for exploring city, and shopping/eating.
all reviews » We loved the historic feel of the hotel. It was very well renovatedand well maintained. The staff are friendly and very curteous, especially the period dressed doormen. We will definitely stay there again if we are ever in San Francisco. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and proffesional. The hotel is beautiful. The bar in the lobby is great and the bartenders make the most amazing cocktails. My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much and will stay here again. The staff was very friendly and quick to offer assistance. The location is great for shopping and the cable car stops right in front of the hotel. Our room was on the 7th floor in the rear of the hotel away from both busy streets. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Room (1104) was nice and very clean. Appreciated coffee in the morning at the Lobby bar. Starlight room has the best views of the city and Scala's is one of my favorite restaurants in sf. Staff was excellent. Decor and building was nice and relaxing. Bath products were exceptional. Loved the "green" incentive... Discount at the restaurant for house keeping deferral. The location is exceptional for shopping, airport accessibility via BART, and proximity to the conference centre. The lobby is very well appointed, and staff are helpful. The wooden frame around the door had been worked on and patched. It looked like sloppy workmanship to me. Also, there's no place to put your makeup bag except on the edge of the sink counter. Bathroom was very small. Shower heads need to be replaced (mineral/rust deposits and just old looking). Bathroom in hotel room was way too small. My husband is 6.3 so everything about it was difficult given its super small size. Did not like paying a cover charge for the starlight room seeing how we were guests of the hotel. The hotel itself is a historic building, and the rooms may be small for the tastes of some. Business wifi was less than reliable, and suffered a security lapse during my stay, but Kimpton staff were able to rectify it fairly quickly. Nuisance and voices in the night from the street and the small size of the room. Bar staff very dissapointing. Counter staff is not very friendly. The check in timing. We can only check in at 3pm. Pretty small rooms, but clean and orderly. No coffee maker in room!. Hotel rate was very high compared with facilities. This may be true with nearby hotels. excessive overnight noise / from road works. tram and taxi calls during the morning . no tea/coffee making facilities in room. We had people partying in the adjacent room till 5 in the morning. We did call and complain. Also, the bell hop couldn't locate some of our bags they had retrieved from our car in valet parking. Apparently they were stashed behind front desk and that was not conveyed amongst employees. Caused us a good time delay!. Street noise. On 8th floor and could not seal out street noise due to age and condition of windows. Had to buy ear plugs in order to sleep. Te business centre MDD not work for me or for a number of guests. Bathroom was smaller than you think possible. Kept knocking off the toilet tissue holder while sitting on the toilet and we're fairly skinny :-) No continental breakfast but that's true of all hotels in this area AFAIK. The cleaning lady knocking on my door and waking me up at 8:30 AM. Smell of breakfast very early, windows would not close properly, very expensive mini-bar, environments were slightly worn, could not find a good area to work in common spaces. No coffee maker in room. Very small bathroom. No rubber or plastic mat for the bathtub Also no grips for entering or leaving tub. Dangerous, particularly for older folk. some areas more jaded than quaint. Unfortunately, the Skylight Room was not open during our stay. Would have liked tea/ coffee in room. Tiny, but that would be fine for one or two people. It isn't obvious that you have to request a coffeemaker be brought to the room - having one would be nice. Rooms a bit small but probably typical for price and location. Roof top bar closed completely for private functions for all the nights of our stay!. Not impressed by the front desk staff or the doorman, quite gruff although both redeemed themselves on the day we checked out. Some staff members on the front desk - one was very dismissive of a charge error on my invoice.... "it's only $4." whilst the concierge spoke to us as if he didn't care too much for our inquiry. We didn't speak to him again. Surprising given the reviews I'd read prior to our stay. The windows were old and only single glazed and thus the room was extremely noisy at night. Also had a dog howling in the next room until the early hours on our first night. Starlight Lounge was over rated. the bathroom was waaaaaaaaaaay too small - the fitness center was lacking. After requesting on our second day that the housekeeping staff replenish the empty body wash container, they just simply did not do it. The staff was very nice outside of not following up on the request. I don't like moldy grout around the bathtubs. Street noise was loud. I changed rooms and the second room was a connecting room, via a door, to the next room. It was extremely noisy. I could hear every word from the guest, and their kids, next door. The car attendant one night was extremely rude and had a chip on his shoulder. Every morning it took the Valet 20-30 min to get the car. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again. It felt like I stayed in a comfortable closet. The room was so small. To pay so much for a room, I wanted to feel important and like I truly was living in luxury. I'm sure that I got the smallest room possible and it was annoying to think I spent over $250 for one night in a closet. They didnt have a hot water flask for us. It was too busy in the lobby entry area and way too many tourists. Overall, the hotel wasn't what I expected. However, I was upgraded "or so the front desk lady said" to a room that was nice and clean with a very comfy bed. Room very small. Took the offer to not have my room cleaned for 3 nights, but only received 1 voucher. All that time I didn't even have a washcloth. Room was waaaaaaaay too small. Shower, water went everywhere because I think we had an accessible shower therefore no ledge to stop water from running outside the shower, shower curtain didn't help, and only 2 towels for 2 guests so no extra towels to soak up excess water. Elevators really old and slow, I'm very surprised I didn't get stuck in one. Small rooms for the price payed. Room was dirty (bathroom shelves full of dust), Room was small, lacked tea/coffee facilities and cost a fortune. Breakfast was also extra. Everyone was so interested in getting a tip (so service felt forced). Bathroom is too small ,the facilities are old. The room was tiny. To find the toilet paper took 5 minutes (behind the door you can't close whilst on toilet as bathroom is so small) My room backed into the lifts so I had hours of whistling like a tornado through the walls. Never again!. $300 a night for a standard ass room!!! Waaaaaay over priced... $57 dollars for parking (awesome) thank you for gouging a young couple even more!! That price is pathetic!! At least be reasonable. Small bathroom, and room for the price too expensive. Front desk night staff did not follow up on reuqest for new tv remote.
