the staff was friendly and helpful; the parking was reasonable and convenient and parking staff was courteous. The proximity to the Civic Center, The Asian Art Museum, St. Mary's Cathedral, Japantown, Market Street, Union Square was great. I liked the plush beddings, the updated bathroom; the breakfast area was neat, sunny and the 8th floor location with the cityview was a nice way to begin my day.
all reviews » The rooms were very clean and very fresh feeling with large full wall windows. The daily maid service was impeccable and the staff were all very pleasant. The wi-fi worked well and was free though not quite fast enough to take large downloads like movie files well. An excellent value for the money in a very convenient location just 10-15 minutes walk to Union Square at a fraction of the price.the continental breakfast is really good. I really like that you can sit and talk and relax and have a good breakfast and time is really good too. Co'z some people sleep in so the 8am-11am is really good. Hotel was great value for money. Rooms modern, clean and comfortable. The presence of homeless people in the neighborhood was disturbing, especially as some of them were sometimes loud and appeared to be under some kind of chemical influence. However, they kept mostly to themselves.Its true the area is a little rough around the edges. But the AYI youth hostel is on the same block and the hotel itself had lots of international guests who didn't have any problems. You can avoid worries by taking a taxi at night, or by staying off of Ellis and walking down a few blocks. We never had any problems, but I imagine some people would be bothered by the appearance of the area... no refrigirator.The Hotel is under renovation until March 2009 (just the loby/reception area located on ground floor). I felt that this could have been advertised so that I could have made an informed decision on whether I wanted to stay there under these circumstances (drilling and building noise). I have to admit that there noise was minimal and caused no real inconvenience. many homeless people around surrounding streets, but they didn't cause any problems (we knew this before we booked) hotel is very safe, need room key to use lift.As noted in many customer reviews, there are a lot of down-and-out street people in the neighborhood. The use of the elevator was restricted and my room card deactivated several times.there was no airconditioning in the room so the room was very hot, especially in the afternoon. Position, neighborhood. The position, apparently unsafe, and not only at night. The hotel didn't respect the reservation fare for parking (it was 15$ per day, they transformed it in 25$). More, the parking the hotel uses has two different fares, for hotel customers and for private citizen, and the customer pay more (why?). So, I asked to be considered a not-customer and to have a consequent fare, but they didn't allow it. The room cleaning was always done late afternoon,I found this to be very inconvenient at times.Not a good area, many homeless people near the hotel, but had no problems with them.No drawers or shelves in the room so you have to live out of your suitcase Area outside the hotel not safe to walk at night. breakfast time from 7am instead of 6am. We had to stay in another hotel the first night due to problems. After a long flight this was not very nice. They did not offer any compensation in the first place, although the hotel where we stayed was of a lower quality. After all we got a small discount. Also, the area of the hotel was not very safe. It is located in Tenderloin (the are with the highest criminality in the city) your web page did not say anything about that and i think that guest should be informed about the wierd location of the hotel.
