We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during our journey around the West Coast and had a pleasant stay at this hotel. We stayed on the second floor which had a small dining area and outside patio which we used alot. The room was a bit on the small side but had everything we needed and was clean. Location is great. It is at the bottom of Lombard street so you go straight up the giant mountain of a hill to the crooked street. If you're able I would recommend trying to walk up and down this at leas.
all reviews » As a mom traveling with 2 teenagers, I thought this was a great place. It's an older hotel that could use updating, but it's clean, staff is friendly and it has free parking. It's perfect if you do not plan on spending a lot of time in your room. We left every morning by 9am and came back around 7pm, so it was perfect for the amount of time we spent there. It was a 10-15 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf and 4 blocks to the top of Lombard where it becomes the crookedest street. Easy walk to catc. Staff were excellent!!! They answered our needs promptly and with a smile. The room was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was located central to many places of interest. The rates were very reasonable and the parking was limited but we had no problem. Very convenient, hard to find in the cityl, an added plus. If all spaces filled staff would double park you and hold your keys then move to space when open. Staff was very accomidating. Location was the most important positive point about this hotel... The hop on hop off bus stop was right outside the door... The bus takes you all over SF and is great value. Rooms are old but quite spacious. Staff very helpful and gave directions to plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Car parking was a huge bonus as you don't need to use your car to get to the attractions... Hop on the bus. The free parking is a savings of $40 per day! All the reviews I read were right on. The view from the garden on the third floor was very nice. Lots of places to walk to from here. This hotel has parking, a real plus in San Francisco. It is a very old hotel and not at its best but extremely clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Its easy to bus from the hotel to downtown and the buses are very frequent. The room was big, the bed was confortable and the location was excelent very near to some of the most important sightseeings of the city. The air conditioning was efficient and I enjoyed having a coffee machine in the room. this is the second time we stayed there and it didn't disappoint; convenient location...you can walk everywhere and it's great for running; we had everything we needed including free parking; very obliging staff. The hotel was close to the beachfront and things we wanted to do. The breakfast was a bonus we did not expect it. The rooms were clean and the cost was reasonable. The showers were wonderfully HOT. older hotel and a little worn, but very reasonably priced and clean; great location...close to everything we wanted to see; nice continential breakfast; & FREE PARKING which is very rare in SF. The location of the hotel is great! Centered right in the middle of everything. The GoLo Cafe across the street from the hotel is amazing with awseome customer service and amazing food!. We requested a room at the back of the hotel, which reduced the noise to a very low level. Best room for the money are 112, 212, & 312. These are very quite for the location of the hotel. Whenever the heater turned off it sounded like a dying car engine. The carpet was sticky from the use of rug shampoo and not being able to get it out of the carpet. We didn't take a jacket and found the evenings so cold, we have now been told by everyone, never go to San Francisco without a jacket......very good advice. We went from 100 degrees to 55 in 1 day.....what a shock!. Although the location is good, the street has a lot of cars and if you get a room on the street side it can be very noise. There was a part of the street that was not flat and I could hear both wheels of each car passing through it. would be nice to have an in-room fridge. The free breakfast was TOO small. Arrived at 9:00 am everything was gone including coffee and no cream. Besides that I'd stay again. The breakfast was very ordinary and minimalistic. All guests had to sit together in the lobby on two settees. Piece of pipe sticking out behind a concrete pillar in the parking garage toor a huge scratch in my rental car when I pulled out of a parking space. You can't see the pipe from the driver's seat and it's mostly conceiled by the pillar. Very annoying, fortunately I had good insurance but if it had been my own car... Nothing. nothing - leaving. Marginal wifi on 3rd floor at rm316. Not being able to reserve a parking spot so we could go out at night. Bed was just so, so in comfort, top spread was super thin and more for decoration not warmth, we had a nice view from our room (316) , for us it was all about location - most things we were wanting to see we're within walking distance. The Marina is a good location!. Parking! We were parked and people who came after us double parked on us. We were there for Bay to Breakers and we were almost late because of the cars. poor breakfast. The bed was a little on the firm side. Rooms a bit old but clean. for the breakfast it is necessary to bring the food in the room. The place's sign that was glowing just outside our window all night. No fridge. Parking became problematical. I attended the Opera and returned @ 11:30 PM and was forced to park in the street (although in their "White Zone") because there was no room in the premises. Apparently a common problem as I was advised zt Registration time to "talk to the desk" if I couldn't park inside. Heater turn off by itself. room needed updating. We had a bit of a drama with payments. Communication with staff in relation to these payments after we arrived back in Australia was very poor. The payments were cleared up in the end - no thanks to hotel staff. . Lobby/entryway is far from welcoming - does not give a good first impression. Some of the front desk staff is friendly, helpful and professional; others not so much. Blankets are skimpy - needed heat on at night. Room decor is nothing like the website photos. Some lower floor rooms look out on an alleyway - get a higher floor if you don't want people walking by at eye level. noisy location - windows of rooms facing Lombard street, a major through-fare, have no double glazing; only lift broke down during our stay; maid removed some food from room; no replenishment of teabags. Arrived 2 pm told no rooms ready at all as not cleaned. Advised to come back in hour we did still not ready for another 40 mins very disappointing after 13 hour flight. Staff not very concerned. Also asked staff to confirm bus route to centre and staff not sure and left it at that without trying to ascertain details for me. In end realised that my memory of buses from 8 years ago on last visit was better than receptions. 1. No fridge and microwave. That was ridiculous. 2. Noisy ice-maker was right close to the room and every time I heard its awful sounds. 3. Cleaning ladies started were very noisy at 8 AM already. And tried to come into the room while we were there at 9.30 AM. What was that? 4. Parking is tooooooooo small. Some rooms are close to some residential apts. and they were noisy on weekends. Would book a room next time in different part of hotel. WiFi internet made me cry often. Broken furniture and a bit dirty carpets in room. Place could do with decorating. Breakfast was a pick up and go drink and pastry.
