Kuhio Banyan is right in the middle of Waikiki just two blocks from fabulous beaches & walking distance to the Honolulu Zoo, restaurants, shops, and superettes. Kindly staff and simple kitchenettes make this an easy place to stay. Can't be guaranteed, but best of all was Hawaii's state bird, the Hawaiian Tern, nesting right beside the 3rd floor elevator exit!. *i loved the room ...looked like we were in Honolulu with the interior (couches, fan...) * nice! size bathroom. love the bed hidden so we could have more room...GREAT idea. your staff is wonderful! *we stayed at Maile but will not anymore...we will difinetly stay again!!!.
all reviews » Convenient for most things. Laundry and iron, local buses right outside ( you could easily get " The Bus" to Ala Moana shopping Centre where you can change buses to everywhere, find a large food court or shop for anything that isn't in the ABC shop. The staff were very polite and knowledgable as far as local transportation, shopping, dining and events. They never seemed put out when we questioned them. The rooms were very dated but clean. The beach & shopping close to hotel. Not as loud as some reviews claim. My window was right across the street from the club Maddoggs, we stayed for Friday and Saturday nights, and I slept fine. This was a nice surprise! Great place. Good showers. I'll go back. 1stly, the receptionist, Pou (apologies if i got the spelling wrong!) was very commendable. she went the extra mile to help in our time of need. the facilities cleanliness and quiet/peace were all excelent value for money. The location was great all kinds of shopping, eating places, bars, and nightclubs. Must try the noodle shop in front of the hotel. Very spacious w/ kitchenette, micro wave and refrig. W/ pull down murphy bed. I liked the location as it was close to everything e.g. international market, beach etc. The staff, especially the lovely ladies who cleaned our rooms were friendly and always helpful. We have requested 2 rooms aside and we got them. We requested a parking lot and we got one in an indoor parking . We have everything for beach: chairs, umbrella and one cooler. This modest hotel was very well located, clean, quiet, comfortable, a great value, and the staff was very friendly and helpfull, as was most everyone we met in Hawaii. It was a little loud through the night but really we should have expected that considering we were in the middle of the city. The rooms and furniture were very old. Not really comfortable but we got by. parking is really hard to get!. No parking space w/ the hotel, no daily maid service,shower pressure was weak. carpet in the room. No parking!. 1. Uncomfortable sofas--too low & soft, too deep (large sofa pillows would help) 2.uncomfortable mattress & unfitted mattress pad kept sliding around & bunching up 4. no DVD player. 5. decorative verticle wood trim over living room mirrors collect dust, make room seem smaller than if the mirrors were not covered, & are undoubtedly a housekeeping nightmare - ours was load with dust bunnies, especially higher up, but housekeeping cleaned them when we requested it. Nothing but if you wake up easily fridays and saturdays are a bit noisy. Carpet smell and inside cabinets old smell :). the decor needs to be up dated but very reasonable for the price. The elevator was a bit slow, but I liked the easy access stairs. No complaints really. :). Rooms weren't as updated as some we have visited, however, very clean. Coffee maker was broken. The light bulb needed to be replaced and although I made a request, they didn't give me a new one. outdated appearance in rooms. Would like to see an actual bed in rooms. No lanai. Very noisy into the early hours on the Saturday night/Sunday morning, but my room did overlook Kuhio Avenue; the other 8 nights were ok. A very tired 1960's property where little seems to have been done in the last 50 years. Very basic. Hotel did not have a pool, sauna, or fitness room. A very tired building but value for money. Parking, ceiling fan did not work without a horrible noise, room a bit to warm. Staff can be less than helpful. No free internet. No pool, no parking. Too noisy. the elevator is kind of small, and my stay was too short. I was not favorably impressed with the woman who checked me in. I did not/do not trust her. She insisted on "running" my credit card several times. I will have to check on all that when I get to a secure computer. The 250 deposit surprise that the lady at the counter didn't tell us until we came to check-in. Needs renovating. -carpet in the room -lift. I booked through your website abd when I checked in the hotel told me I had to pay hotel tax. I thought the booking was for everything? Then they also placed $250 for security on my credit dard and was told this would be refunded later.. I think both should be stated on your website prior me booking, Appreciate an answer to these. Bruce Smith. Old fashioned rooms. A bit dingy. Ciggy stains on the floor. Found a cockroach crawling over my toothbrush. Not the hotel's problem. It is a cheap place to crash. The noise from the disco below was not much of a problem in my case, but my room was in the opposite wing of the hotel, so I understand how it could be an issue in some other rooms. Cleaning was not done even once, while I stayed there for 5 nights. They charge you 50USD of a security deposit for each night, which is kind of too much. I had to sign a lot of papers to check in, I have never seen so much paperwork in my various travels. the bed was terrible. it started out cute a 'murphy bed' but omg ervery move creeked and crunked. the mattress which i loved hard but the box spring was a two inch cardboard one and every time we move one of us would huff. i didn't get much sleep. the tv was adjacent to the couches but not the bed if they only put it in the corner of the two couches which turns in to day beds that need new cushions then every one could watch it. That the safe wasn't working and we had to ask for towels when the staff took ours..... It was a bit shady at night and very noisy with bars right next to it and in fact one located just below our room in the same building. I would not have wanted to have kids out late on that street. The bed was quite uncomfortable. The hotel has no windows- which you can open, no balcony- which is a "must " , when you are in Waikiki.. very laut aircondition . Very simple and old looking hotel. I would not reccomend it. If you are in such nice place as Honolulu is- you have to choose more nicer hotel, otherwise your stay will not be 100% perfect. Sorry to say. the bed wasn't very comfortable ( murphy bed) The place seemed quite old and dated and the elevator was small and hot and didn't smell very good. Above a nightclub, small room. The lady that checked me in was so rude! She didn't even acknowledge me until I had been standing there almost a whole minute and didn't serve me until almost another minute later. I work at a front desk too and I was horrified by the slow service. They charged extra for coffee and internet service. I was required to do an inventory of all articles in the room.
