The hotel was lovely and full of character. Our room was great, very clean and had a lovely view of the water. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast room had another lovely view out to sea. All well maintained. Yarmouth was a lot smaller than thought. We brought the car over with us which we were thankful for as you would need to go further afield for other attractions. But the hotel was great and we would definitely stay here again as long as the car came with us! :).
all reviews » This hotel is fabulous. Very clean, beautiful linen on super comfy beds, and lots of lovely touches. Big China mugs and a teapot, soft dressing gowns, useful stash of "forgotten to pack" items, iron, mineral water and a little box of mints. I didn't eat breakfast, but others who did said it was very good. My evening meal was excellent although a bit expensive. Fantastic location, looking out over the Solent. The building is a Georgian original and charming, especially the entrance hall. Rooms are comfortable and recently refurbished. The staff are eager to help and unfailingly courteous - test the skills of the genial barman. Both dinner and breakfast would be worth the journey from London on their own. So convenient as we arrived as foot passengers on the ferry. The entrance hall had real character, charmingly decorated and a warm welcome by the receptionist. Our room (no 22) was on the second floor, no lift, but beautifully decorated, spacious, very comfortable, with views of the sea & the high street. The sitting room was an added bonus. Just drive off the Lymington ferry and you arrive at the refurbished George. Room was large, high ceilinged & relaxing with a big comfortable bed & huge bathroom with separate shower. dinner was tasty and lounge and bar have roaring log fires in winter. Nice feel to the place - traditional English establishment with lots of character. Very friendly, welcoming and above all helpful reception staff. The flowers throughout, particularly the centrepiece in the entrance hall, were lovely. Lovely open fire to sit by. Complementary tea and biscuits plus sweets and fresh fruit. Beautiful entrance with fresh flowers, twinkling lights, comfortable lounge area and smart restaurant. Nice rooms with dressing-gowns provided. The hotel is in an excellent location near ferry. The restaurant is excellent and having breakfast over looking the sea was a lovely start to the day. Lovely hotel with old world charm. Comfortable king size bed, nice bath with plenty of hot water, old fashioned cooked to order breakfast. Interesting main staircase to go with the history. Staff all very helpful. I loved its history and the spacious room I enjoyed which King Charles ll had occupied in 1671. Its four-abreast staircase was a joy to walk up too. Friendly and good dining too. Yarmouth centre is small, but closely and the George is at the centre. Very quiet, great staff and really nice base for our weekend break & only a step away from the Ferry. Great location within a couple of minutes walk of the Lymington-Yarmouth ferry. Set amongst the shops and pubs so easy to get round. The hotel is a beautiful old English style building but in need of some TLC. We had to pay to park in the car park nearby. My room, right at the top was very hot, and the TV had limited channels. Am being picky here - there's nothing wrong with the place!. If I were really struggling for a comment, I'd say that the dining room has a cool atmosphere, especially when it's dark outside. But it didn't put us off. Parking is not that easy at busy times, have to pay & park on High Street. Dinner tended towards nouvelle cuisine without delivering on taste/flavour. Seafood options should perhaps include non-shellfish accoutrements/garnishes, as some folk are allergic to the latter. No vegetarian food, had to ask for chef to provide option which was not very imaginative. Breakfast was rather frugal. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. No carparking facilities. Parking tricky, and short time limited. We were lucky to find space near hotel in November, but imagine summer would be more difficult. However there is a large pay car park not too far away. That I only could stay one night. Nothing. Stayed in Room 22, shower not great as water did not run very hot. No coffee or tea making facilities in room, although complimentary tea served in room in morning by arrangement. Would have liked tea-making facilities, especially as we arrived on such a poor day and all we wanted was hot bath and nice cup of tea. Also like to make early morning cuppa. Restaurant menu which we didnt try looked pricey and a bit formal A visitor to us had a dog which they would nt even allow in the garden so we bought our drinks in yacht club garden instead!. Starters and desserts were not up to usual standard and there were no 'amuse bouche' as there have been in the past. nothing except having to leave. Nothing - it was all good. Do not expect a Wi-Fi connection in your room. It extends only to the ground-floor communal areas. Shower lacked power and very expensive. No signal on my large TV - I was staying by myself after a business trip and wanted a relaxing evening with TV! Reconstituted organge juice - not nice. We were on 2nd floor ,mum is 76 so climb up a challenge had not realised when I booked but we were still happy with it . I didn't stay long enough :(. Lack of the free wifi , they stated !! Only available in a corner of reception, come on it's 2013, not 1913 , if your going to offer it , put a booster on each of the floors. Not enough choice of vegetables with too few dishes on menu. Poor service at breakfast and dwindling supplies of food. Shower was in bath and had just a small handrail but nothing to hold onto to get out of shower other than hot towel rail which was a bit dangerous and so unusable. Nothing. No parking facilities as had to move the car around a bit in the public car park. No issues at all. nothing. Breakfast should be better. Poor reading light in bedroom otherwise fine. Disappointing that menu didn't change on a daily basis - fine food available but we ate the same thing each day. Room 12 too much road noise and noise from movement in adjacent rooms. Not enough ventilation/no air conditioning. toilet flush not working. The room was uncomfortable. I am 6'3" tall and could not stand up right in the shower or the toilet. Also the bed tilted down so during the night I was slipping towards the foot of the bed. Shower head with hairs on it, shower head full of lime scale, I had to clean it out to make it usable for us. Never book room 14 as it is between two firedoors (main through-fair) and the bed moved when people walked past!!. As a business traveller free wifi was an incentive to stay at this hotel, but it wasn't available in the bedroom, only in a lounge area or the entrance hall, meaning there was no privacy to work. There was an overpowering smell of vinegar at reception when checking in. I booked a room on a reduced rate, but the listed price per night would have been expensive for the particular room I stayed in. Service in the bar and at breakfast was slow despite the hotel being very quiet when we stayed. Over cooked breakfast. Lack of tea facilities in room. Attitude of some staff. TV not working.

The George Hotel is ideally situated for the Lymington to Yarmouth Car Ferry Terminal. Ferries run every half an hour from April-December, January March a winter timetable operates. The crossing takes half an hour and it is possible to travel as a foot passenger. Ferries on the hour from Yarmouth connect with the fast train service to London with an approximate Journey time of 2.5 hours from London to Yarmouth. Parking Facilities: long stay car parking facilities are available within a few minutes walk of Yarmouth Terminal and at Lymington Terminal
