We were greeted by a very friendly man who couldn't do enough for us. He allowed us into our room much earlier than usual as we wanted to get ready for a wedding nearby. The room was lovely, clean and had all the necessary bits and bobs we needed (including a hand-held magnifying mirror!). Beds were comfortable, the bathroom was light and clean. Breakfast was good, plenty of it and good, prompt service. Would recommend this hotel to others.
all reviews » A lovely inn with good, clean rooms and a good sized ensuite bathroom ..and, at times, a working TV... sinceours didn't work!. However, everybody pulled out all the stops to get the TV in working order; alas, it was not to be. We were offered free drinks as compensation in the pub, which we appreciated very much. Other than this amusing story, we had a great time in this lovely place and would definitely go back!. The staff at the Grey Walls are so friendly and could not do enough for us. We had a meal on the Friday evening which was really good and the breakfast on both mornings was very enjoyable. The room was nice and comfortable. Definately go back and stay again. Lake Windermere is beautiful and they have lots of lovely little shops to browse round. If you enjoy walking or cycling you will love Windermere. 5 min walk from station with quiet surrounding. Old but clean building. nice food in bar/restraunt. A bathtub is very important for traveller. Breakfast is sufficient and rich. The owner Alan is friendly and helpful. We arrived early but he allowed us to leave luggage before check-in. I have a food allergy and the food and staff was excellent at catering for us .They was all accomadating and extremely polite . the dog was made to feel welcome at all times except breakfast We had a great 5 days. It was my birthday on the Monday and the bar staff brought me out a bottle of Prosecco. Very thoughful of threm. The hotel is good value for money and the staff are very pleasant breakfast was also good. Good, slightly old fashioned, slightly quirky hotel with proper pub. A bit of character, good night stay near centre of Windermere. Breakfast good. Good valve at £70 per night for a double inc breakfast. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It was clean. They made us feel at home especially as we took 2 dogs with us and we were a little wary. The food particularly the breakfast were delicious. Allan and Richard were excellent hosts. We were a group of eight girls on a drinking weekend, staff were very helpful and patient with us. Can't fault the breakfast was good value for money and has good in house bar. Bedrooms a good size, comfortable and very clean. Staff were very friendly - sorted out issue with parking quickly and offered advice about local ammenities. Very helpful friendly staff and a very good choice of made to order cooked breakfasts.the hotel is very near to the station and several good restaurents. Staff could not have been more helpful. My low-level room is facing courtyard, a little bit noisy with kitchen. we have a dog with us so our room was a little tired as expected {not going to put animals in a best room could have done with air con as particularly hot weather whilst here. It was all very good for the price. There was nothing I did not like. Only thing can complain about is had to wait for room to be ready as got there too early but we just had a few drinks at the bar while we were waiting which was fine and staff let us know when it was ready. Very weak coffee! Some noise from bar but stopped about 11.30pm so not a major problem. Room and bathroom very small, but OK for the money. Bar area very shabby and tired looking with ripped seating. Found it rather odd that a chef showed us to our room. Asked three times for a remote control for television and gave up in the end. a bit musty smell on first walking in and male toilets by entrance to hotel a bit smelly.the towel rail kept falling off. The Grey Walls was lovely, no complaints at all. Parking was a bit crampt. Dodgy lock on the door of Room 6. Nothing. Nothing. No mirror in the room, except for one in the bathroom. a towel rail in the ensuite would be useful. The breakfast bacon was underdone on one occasion and too lightly done the following day. no,can't think of anything. Room is small. No where to hang wet towels,. Long wait for breakfast and over-done sausage My single room had a tiny handbasin, no viewable mirror and no-where for gel in the shower. Room over looking smoking patio very noisy until early morning. Windows didnt open and it was very hot. To be fair the manager tried and succeeded in opening and extra window for us. Thank you!. The curtain is too thin and can not keep the room dark in the morning. Noise Bed was a bit dated. No lamp that works in bedroom. Unfortuneately we were double charged for our room but it was reversed when I requested it. Room a bit dated and drab. nothing. Wifi was not available. Early breakfast. All good. Breakfast was a little late for me at 8:30 - I wanted to catch a 10 am ferry a mile walk away so I was too late.
