This budget Victorian hotel has clean en suite rooms just a few minutes from Haymarket Station and a 10-minute walk from Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping area. Piries Hotel is located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh's West End. Haymarket is well served by buses, trains and the airport shuttle link. Murrayfield Stadium is a 20-minute walk away, and the EICC is within 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. Each room has satellite TV and Wi-Fi access, and Piries has a small lounge bar with plenty of whiskies. Luggage storage is available, and there is also a vending machine.

Convenience to Haymarket Train Stop, (5-min. walk), friendliness of staff, willingness to change a too-dim light bulb, traditional decor, ability of staff to answer questions about buses, restaurants, etc. Had a huge room (slept 5) for the same price as a single. hotel was clean breakfast was good very friendly staff and it was very peacefull beds were also clean and very comfortable.

We were expecting just a room, but rather got a whole flat pretty much! Could come back whenever we wanted and be as loud as we wanted!. The hotel staff were very accomodating, considering my wife and I had a lot of luggage - we were given a larger room than our previous visit.Staff was helpful, value for money, nice location close to princess street. It wasn't as close to the city centre as we had thought but once we sorted out the buses we were fine. The bed linen is old and frayed, and should be replaced.they could do some renovation, yet nothing specific to point out. couldnt open d bedroom window, incase of fire!!! the hot tap in d bath wouldnt turn off had to get d hotel staff to get a wrench... was told d hotel was 5mins from town it was 20mins walk...I thought it a bit expensive for the single traveller. shower was not working properly in our room.Dirty shower curtains and fairly cold room. bedrooms fairly basic but certainly ok for the price. While there was a good choice of food for breakfast the bread could have been fresher. the only thing being that one of my friends lost key and were charged £40....a little excessive for a key!!. The shower was not working proper. On and off warm water. The shower was low pressure and a bit slow.Window would not open to allow resh air to room. We had some difficulties to lock our bedroom, and so did the staff of the hotel. The hotel is not really close to the city center (20 min by foot to go to Princes street).The heating was not efficient enough to adequately heat top floor rooms like mine. The weather was exceptionally cold during my stay which might have contributed to this. My room was in the basement and was damp; could hear all rooms around you and above; perhaps request a room on the top floors for better sleep; would recommend this hotel if on a really tight budget. i didn t like the bathroom cause they give u only soap no bathshower no shampoo and there was not enough water in the shower. water in shower could be warmer breakfast room needs more space. The cheap hand shower was worthless. I thought the general houskeeping could have been improved; there were some fittings broken in my room [towel rail and table lamp]; wallpaper was hanging off the wall and the walls stained; and the heating was just adequate.The room was actually a flat in the house next door. Whilst very spacious, it was sparsely furnished, te shower didn't work, no curtains, no bedside light etc. Thus I cn't really give a view on the bedrooms in the hotel itself. breakfast very spartanic. Tiny shower-rooms. Staff at breakfast time not very helpful and did not clear tables promptly.Rooms in basement not very pleasant - no view at all. Bathroom door knob not working properly. Staff were requested to repair this but did not do so to our satisfaction.The residents bar closes very early and the person running the bar is not very helpful. a bit dirty in the corners, under the beds. The vent in the bathroom was quite noisy, and the toilets were not easy to use. breakfast time was too early. poor in room entertainment, tv dvd etc... Noisy w/c extractor wouldn't turn off kept us awake. Un washed coffe cupleft on it's tray.
