The Elgano exceeded all expectations. My stay was on a weekend when the Welsh rugby team were playing so it was a busy weekend in the City centre. I arrived at 7.30pm on Saturday and even though I arrived at what seemed a busy time in their restaurant/bar I was greeted with a hello by smiling and courteous members of staff and checked in promptly. The main course meals looked fantastic as a table of ten were just being served in their near full restaurant. Immediately I thought the hotel was .
all reviews » I really loved this hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly, rooms were clean and cosy. Breakfast was rich - in comparison to what I was used to in London. A good choice from cereals, toasts with jam and English breakfast. The hotel is located 15 minutes walk from the university and from the city center, so you can walk everywhere (except for Cardiff Bay, that's a bit further away but there's regular train service in the city). We stayed in a coach house accross the yard which was an abs. This hotel is placed on one of the most picturesque streets of Cardiff. Just arriving there was a treat in itself. There's a bus station directly outside, not that one needs it - the castle is 15 minutes walk. Rooms are clean if a bit small and you wake up to the smell of fresh baking in the morning. I was a fool not to try more than breakfast as the kitchen fragrances were absolutely heavenly. Very helpful and friendly staff, whatever I asked, they sent me to the right place. Overall extremel. I cannot compliment the staff enough, the gentleman that owned the hotel was a mine of information regarding Cardiff & surrounding areas & went out of his way to make our trip more enjoyable. The young lady on reception was friendly, polite & always smiling & laughing. Such lovely staff & a wonderful, warm welcome. The rooms were clean & well presented & the shower was amazing! So, I've tried in November and since then I'm regularly staying in it. Very nice and comfy rooms, lovely breakfast, highspeed broadband, and the last but not least a very kind personal 24 hours ready to help. Politeness & efficiency of the staff 1st class. Local knowledge also excellent. Good check-in/out times and very flexible to suit own arrangements. Breakfast (the only meal we had) was excellent and more than enough ! Convenient location - ideal for most anywhere in Cardiff. Staff were brilliant especially Martin the chef. rooms were modern and comfortable breakfast very good all in all you could not fault anything. close to everything would eat there in the evening next time only reason we didn't was we already had plans before we got there. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in-exceptionally clean, comfortable and relaxing. The staff are very friendly, addressed me by my first name ,which made me feel valued and are very helpful. Lovely walk across the river Taff and through Bute Park to Cardiff Castle. Petra the duty manager was very friendly, and nice/welcoming. I had a super comfy stay, which was important as I was there for work. It was a ten minute walk from the City Centre which was also handy. Very friendly people,good breakfast, Rooms very clean. The hotel is in a good location and not overpriced even though most other hotels put there.s up for the rugby league world cup weekend. Very person centred. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent, it did not have a bath, but that did not bother me as I prefer to shower. The breakfast was nice and if you wanted more more toast or tea it was not a problem. The location is great as it is only about a 15 minute walk to the city centre. One of the twin rooms was above the drive way - the coach house. when we arrived the room felt cold = needs the heating on in advance as September can be a cold month. Small towels in the bathroom and no glass for your toothbrush. Internet connection not so good where we were (detached house). The boiler didn't provide enough warm water for everyone (only 2 out of 4) but it heated on time for a second round of showers. One small issue, the remote control wasn't working in my room. Lack of bedside lamps, bit of a funny quality of light to relax or read by. Maybe drinks glasses in rooms too. Nothing. No table/desk in room (could have had a fold out shelf attached to window sill (room 3) that would have done the trick) Not big enough space to lay out own toiletries in bathroom No shelf in shower for toiletries. Nothing to note. You only get one breakfast - it was fabulous. Only there one night so no real judgement. Nothing at all. nothing. Cardiff rush hour traffic is very slow. Breakfast too early. bad ventilation, it smells the kitchen in the bedrooms. Lack of Internet coverage No one to speak to in case of an emergency, I needed access to an iron and I couldn't speak to anyone about if till 8.15am!!. Slightly stark decor for a heritage property; no tumblers in bathroom; parking that would not suit less maneuverable vehicles; over-zealous PIR eco lighting that plunges you into darkness. The dining room had a few bits, a plastic glass and a fork, on the floor and no menu to explain what was available. The heater seems not working very well in the night.
