I have just moved to Bristol for work, and stayed at the yha several days while looking for accommodation. Overall, yha Bristol is a very good hostel compared to the standard. It is new and clean which is pretty rare for hostels. Showers are new and clean too. Tv lounge on the ground floor is a great concept. Excellent location and staff was very friendly. I had a great stay. The hostel had really good communal areas - more like a chic coffee house than a budget hostel. The rooms weren't quite as nice but perfectly acceptable. The wifi was good but you have to pay for it and it doesn't reach the bedrooms - only available in the communal areas. Location is fantastic.
all reviews » Location fantastic....right on the Quayside - very relaxed atmosphere. Helpful, very friendly Staff, served great coffee on licenced/snack bar next to Reception Desk, until late... Good value for money. No en-suites but plenty of toilets and showers available. All cleaned regularly. The relaxed atmosphere.Lovely tobe able to chill out at the hostel during the daytime when tired from sightseeing. Children loved the games room. Nice, different people to meet. The location: in the center and quite near to the coach and train stations. The place is almost quiet during the night. Properly and abundant english breakfast for 5 pounds. We like everything about the place from the location to the rooms cleanliness and the helpfulness for the staff. It was great value for money and we will defiantly be returning again in the near future. We stayed in a room of four beds with own bathroom and toilet. There is a bar in the hostel opened until 1 and they served sandwiches and pizza. There is a lounge where you can watch the tv and a pool!. Staff had good local knowledge and were helpful and polite. Excellent location for tourist attractions. Public areas were peaceful spacious and modern in design. Excellent harbourside location helpful, friendly staff clean, comfy rooms and WONDROUS BREAKFAST A really nice experience for 2 middle aged ladies!. It was has a friendly atmosphere. Position, Staff, Breakfast, Room. No free internet – when we know how cheap wireless internet per month is, charging £3 per hour might seem a bit pricey. You have to pay for wifi and it doesn't reach the rooms. Nothing that would stop me staying there again.Would have been nice if cafe/restaurant was open longer... there was only breakfast available when we stayed, however, the YHA is situated right in the heart of Quayside Restaurant area so plenty of food outlets nearby. Internet with fee...i can't understand the reason. The cleaning must be improved in the common area, however acceptable. Temporary problem in the kitchen - one sink was blocked. Nothing. I liked all!. The dormitory (females x6) had just one small window and was quite hot and stuffy. What seemed to be ALL of Bristol boozing late at the docks. Not the fault of YHA. Nothing to dislike other than you don't mind sharing the room with fellow travelers. Sharing a room is never ideal, but you know you are in a dorm... You get what you pay for. WiFi is expensive (50p for 10 mins, £5 per day) but in fairness it is very quick and reliable. My main gripe would be the poor sound insulation. Can't be helped, but perhaps people could be reminded not to shout in the corridors.Also I used the computers a lot and found their location really annoying, because people were talking really loudly nearby. Why couldn't the training room, when not in use double as a silent study/computer room. After all, it probably isn't much in use in the evening. Nothing, except the dormitory floor not perfectly swept, but that's a minor complaint overall. Very noisy as corridor floorboards extremely creaky, we were near the toilets so people up and down corridor until early hours. One of the 4 bed female dorm persons, arrived at 4.55 into the dorm, showered and scurried about in the bathroom for 30 mins, with all lights on, and then, left, with bed unslept in. Never experienced this behaviour pattern before at yh but needless to say, I did not have a good nights rest at Bristol. I marked my stay down this time because I was in room 206 & :- - there was a heatwave & I do think that at least a fan could have been provided. The window hardly opened and considering there were 5 beds in the room, we were all dreadfully uncomfortable - in fact, I felt ill during the night. - I think there should not be a bed in the middle of the room - there were only 4 cupboards & the bed had no light. No parking spaces available. The bar/ restaurant was being done up so o facilities to get meal and drinks which we were looking forward to after a long day at work. Only one pillow each!. Bristol city is a dump im afraid. self catering tables limited Games room dissapointing (no games!) Broken shower room handle/door £150 for two nights...really expensive for a family on low income. noise at night from people coming in. Snoring room-mates!. it would be nice to have a watercooker at the room. the room was terribly hot - even with the fan working all night and an open window... N/a. Party-goers coming in noisily at 4.30am!!!! Can't be helped at this time of year though!!!. The shower was not adjustable. nothing. Room bed lights did not work , and a little cramped for 4. Toilets are not working on my floor. The noise from the street from early morning. Showers a bit iffy.
