Everywhere was clean and well-kept, including the room and the hotel itself. The staff were very welcoming too. A beautiful large room very delightfully decorated and a pleasure to stay. Friendly staff, great location and a lovely room :). the central location, helpful staff, clean rooms. Whole experience was enjoyable. The staff were really friendly and helpful . The cleanliness of the room was superb and little touches excellent.

Right in the heart of the city amongst all the designer shops, restraunts, bars and nightlife. It was just like staying in the west end. The hotel was lovely. Not modern but rather quaint.freindly staff. Worked at NEC. free upgrade to a superior room. very good hotel. Some members of reception staff were exceptionally good and I would have liked a way of identifying them to Management for their good service and warm personalities.Most staff were a credit to the hotel and to Birmingham. Poor television picture-unable to watch it.Radio available through the television did not work at all so no musicto listen to while getting ready to go out.Noisy single room - lift noise, air conditioning unit and on busy roadside of hotel (bus noise). Scent used in public areas was really disgusting. Am used to French hotels where staff always greet you when you leave or enter hotel - no-one there half the time and no greeting.The physical facilities are going down hill. My room (non smoking) stank of cigarette smoke and there was a burn hole in the duvet; there was a large tear in the curtain and a large stain on the chair; duct tape on parts of the hall carpet. Didnt have facilities i had phoned to ask if they had (hairdryer and straighteners), shower not adjustable, bed very uncomfortable, air conditioner noisy, no tv remote (so couldnt use the tv), fuse had blown so no power points worked initially (fixed by staff though).Thought it was quite run down for a 4 star hotel. The room was small, with a single bed which I wasn't expecting!. The receptionist gave us directions to the car park but did not tell us that there were two, so we parked further away from the hotel than needed and it was raining, so a little disapointed.The attiude of one of the receptionists. I requested a smoking room on your web site and was told after check that there are no smoking rooms in this hotel. The telephone in our room was not working and we were allocated another superior room which in my opinion it was not. They charge a £2 credit card fee which they only tell you about at the moment of check out.No internet access in the room. they could not find the reservation. No fitness equipment. Bathroom floor needed sweeping. Carpet worn out and had been repaired, room was run down and old and had cockroches. Check out is too early at 11am. A bit of renewing would be nice. Really old facilities, the bathroom is broken, and the room is too small.Inside, the hotel needs a face lift. The shower dribbled boiling water - my wife washed her hair in the sink. Upgraded Bedroom boasted large bed, but was in fact two singles pushed together. Our upgraded room looked like it hadn't been decorated since 1901 and then it was done on the cheap. All for £180 per night!!. The room was cold, the staff very rude on the whole.
