  We absolutely loved Zara. We paid extra on arrival and upgraded to the double pool villa for two nights as it was vacant, but then as it was booked out we thenmoved to villa 10 (grand plunge pool villa). We loved so many things about Zara. As there are only 12 or so villas in the resort, most of the time you don't see any other guests. The pools in the single villas are quite sma - This was without a doubt the best resort we ever visited in all our travelling abroad. The garden in which the villas are situated is awesome and right by the sea. This resort is excelent for people who prefer privacy, yet 20 meters walking and you're on the beach. In your private garden by the villa you would think you're alone in the jungle. Every detail of the resort is beautiful. The staff is amazing. The beachfront is a bit basic; Take a taxi to Chaweng Beach for 300 Bht or a tuc tuc for 150 Bht - Really nice and clean hotel.   We found grand Thai very comfortable, with very pleasant staff. The pool was just outside our door, and the beach maybe 100m away, so the main things that might attract people such as us were close at hand. We had our first massage experience there, right at the poolside, great hard working staff. The beach itself was ok, could have been beautiful... what people say » if the breeze was not onshore all the time, and there wasn't black stuff which accumulates on your feet. Neither was a huge problem, we were only the - Everything! So close to the beach, small but refreshing pool. The staff are lovely and the rooms are serviced every day. 2 minute walk to main street and yet the hotel was nice and peaceful. Shower was fine and ample hot water. This is not a 5 star hotel but we loved it and will definitely return.

Although the beach was clean and very beautiful we spent a lot of our time in the pool which was well maintained. We went at the beginning of the rainy season so had a few storms. Location is great, 1 minute's walk to the beach, and 5-10 minutes walk to the town center (shopping/food/drink area); They have own power supply so we had electricity supply in our rooms even the whole southern Thailand had a big blackout on one night during our stay.   This place is awesome, we stayed at a number of resorts are Koh Samui (including The Library which is 5* design hotel) and the Beach Republic is definitely up there. Super quick check in, got upgraded to a suite which was really nice and spacious and then last night was upgraded again to a private pool villa, so much fun having your own pool. Other reviews have said the food is expensive, but when you see what you get - We were supposed to stay only for 2 nights, but ended up staying there for 6. The villa is amazing, the private pool, lounge area, kitchen it was all great. It really gives you the island feeling. The staff were exceptional alway ready to help. The beach club was great too, and the food at their restaurant was also very good.the house keeping even remember which of the bed you sleep on. I highly recommend this place. It added so much to our trip.
