The Hospederia was an old Hospital for Pilgrams and a monastery. It has been fixed up with rooms. The staff were helpful. The rooms clean as well as the bathhrooms. The breakfasts were routine buffet style and more than adequate. I had one meal ( lunch) in the dining room. They serve a Menu del Dia. Once again budget friendly , not a gourmet meal however service fast and friendly. It is close to the cathedral and having completed the Camino de Compestela it was a good place to unwind without ha.
all reviews » I liked everything! It's right beside the Cathedral. The building itself is beautiful, the rooms are basic but very clean. Breakfast was lovely, all staff were very helpful. The city is Santiago is beautiful, it's definitely a place I will go back to and would recommend it to everyone. There's such a good atmosphere there, everyone is relaxed and friendly. HOspederia San Martin Pinario is an old Monastery, part of which has been converted to accommodation. It was unexpected, and absolutely wonderful. THe bed was comfy, the walls 3 feet thick, it felt as if I was in a monk's cell, but with all the mod cons, and all VERY WELL DONE. Congratulations!. The location was perfect, just a stone's throw from the cathedral. The building was originally a monastery, and the single rooms were sparse, but adequate and clean. It was a good value for the money and I would stay there again if I were to visit the area again in the future. The fact that we were staying in an historic building very close to the cathedral. This made our experience of Santiago very authentic. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. The rooms, although very basic were again authentic to the feel and former use of the hotel. What's not to like. none of above descriptions suit the Hospideria as it is ostly frequented by pilgrims completing the Camino de Compostella. Great for us as camino pilgrims. Some of the staff appeared rather rushed and unfriendly however the man who checked us out on our last morning was extremely pleasant and helpful. My bed was very saggy and creaky - my husbands much better. Shower didn't drain well and on one occasion overflowed onto the floor. Weather was so cold for the month of may but that could not be helped. They accept groups of school and university children who treat it like a dormitory and run around at all hours of the day and night keeping everyone awake. The doors to rooms tended to bang when they closed. Room to room telephones would be useful, as you could disturb fellow residents by knocking on another guest's door. The only TV we saw was in the lounge - and when we were there it was tuned to bullfighting. Nothing. only thing was i shared a room with a friend and found it a bit cramped,however saw in other rooms that they were very spacious so couldnt honestly say that rooms were small overall,we were just unlucky. It's not bad, but it's something that you should understand. It's a former monastery and comfort is basic. Wi-Fi only in the cafe. It's long walk from the entrance to the reception and an elevator. And only 1 elevator for the big hotel. The bedroom was small which did not bother me that much but wonder why there is only one bedside lamp? As happened my husband used the one that was there so I did without. Skip the breakfast, bring ear plugs, it can be noisy. Nothing. Wi fi only in the cafeteria - the walls are probably a bit thick for it to reach many other places. The rooms are clean but *really* basic. Was on floor three and couldn't get wifi. Router on that floor would be helpful. Shower was too small. Need a public phone on the premises. No wifi in room. No fire instructions in the room. The city map is very confusing and the staff at the info centre are not very patient and friendly. Nothing. WiFi patchy. Rooms slightly basic but this was fine for us as it was in keeping with staying in an ex-seminary rather than a standard hotel. Nothing. Having to leave. I liked everything. We were driving and it was very difficult to find the place, on account of all the 1-ways. Basic room and no view.
