the restaurant was fantastic and the rooms/grounds of the hotel were gorgeous. We were a little worried because we were in the smallest room in the place but it was a lovely room, so no complaints there. The quality of service and efficiency of all teh saftt, very impressive indeed !!!!. A fabulous hotel. Paid attention to every detail. Wonderful room and staff. Everything, such elgance without being overstated.

The original Franschhoek Country House offers 14 well equipped rooms including 6 standard rooms, 5 luxury rooms and 2 cottages - all designed with your comfort in mind offering charming accommodation and expected services to invite you to relax and unwind. All en-suite rooms are individually appointed and have comfortable lush duvets with embroided percale cotton linen.

Travelling information

From Cape Town:
- Take the N2.
- Take the first Stellenbosch turn-off (named Baden Powell Drive, R310) and keep on travelling to Stellenbosch.
- You will eventually pass the Spier Wine Estate (on your right) and a few kilometres after that, the road will end at a T-junction
- Turn right at the T-junction and travel into Stellenbosch (4 km further).
- You will pass over 3 traffic lights - keep to your left.
- The road ends at a T-junction, at which you turn left.
- Pass 3 traffic lights and shortly after the third set, turn right at a set of robots at the sign 'Franschhoek/Idas Valley'.
- This road will take you over the mountain on the Helshoogte pass, through Johannesdal and Pniel.
- This road eventually ends at a T-junction (16 km from Stellenbosch, shortly after the Boschendal Wine Estate, which would have been on your right.
- Turn right at the T-junction onto the R45 to Franschhoek.
- This road will take you straight into Franschhoek, approximately 13 km further.
- Franschhoek Country House has a yellow coloured wall and is situated 1.5 km before the main town of Franschhoek on the right hand side, next to Grande.
